"I highly recommend Aaron Austin Custom Shutters and Blinds. Mark is absolutely fantastic. We had custom blinds installed in our new construction home in September and could not be happier. Our products arrived quickly and were ready to be installed as soon as we moved in. Our cost was about half of the other companies I interviewed, and throughout the process, Mark was available to meet with us and answer all our questions, and we were able to add to our order with no delays. We are so happy with the company that we just ordered additional solar shades for our exterior doors. Mark is the sole owner and installer and is part of this community-not a chain or franchise. He takes pride in his business and it shows. He’s a pleasure to work with and you won’t be disappointed"

"The project went very smoothly.  He was easy to contact and came out to quote the job exactly when he said he would.  He was unable to start right the job for several months, so we continued looking.  In the end, nobody else that we interviewed seemed up to the task and nobody came close to Chris's price, so we waited for him to become available.

The work started exactly when he said it would.  I always knew when he would be here and how things were progressing.  He did not want and would not take an advance on the job, chosing instead to bill me for each week for only the work actually completed.  He generally worked from about 10 am until about 4 pm each day and was always busy while he was here.  He was very professional about cleaning up each day.  In a house with kids and cats, that was very important.

Our house had some fairly large issues with sheetrock.  There were many places where tape had come loose and was cracked.  It really made the house show poorly.  Chris did an excellent job repairing each and every one of these areas.  These repairs were as important as the new paint in terms of the finished product.

I learned very early in the process that Chris has a higher standard than I do for his painting.  Nothing was ever done until it met his exacting standards.  Walls or ceilings would be repainted until he was satisfied with the result.

When the project was nearing completion, we created a punch list of everything that we thought needed to be touched up.  There were a number of small things on the list (remember that it was our entire house).  Each and every thing we found, no matter how small, was quickly addressed.  He actually had things on his list that we never saw and even those were corrected.  The finished product is outstanding!  The house looks amazing!

I do want to note for you, however, that Chris works alone.  The larger the job, the longer it's going to take.  A crew of 10 painters isn't going to show up and paint your house in 2 weeks.  It's going to be Chris, working by himself, at his pace.  If you need the job to go quickly, you should look elsewhere.  If you don't mind waiting, you'll wind up with excellent results at extremely reasonable prices.  We did and are very pleased with the result."

"After a frustrating time of trying to save money by going the Lowe's route, I was fortunate to meet the owner of Express Shutters and Blinds.  He was able to come to my home within 24 hours, measure all windows, and quote a full installed price for 23 - 2" wood blinds for my Midtown home.  The blinds arrived on time and were installed within 7 or 8 days.  The quality of the product is terrific.  The installation was easy and the overall cost was less than that of buying through a big box retailer.  I have recommended Express Shutters and Blinds to several friends - all of whom have bee thrilled with the product and service."

"After the reappearance of some ceiling cracks, Mr. Matthews stood behind his work.  He stayed in contact and scheduled a time to come back and fix the problem.  He and his crew are very professional, conscientious and concerned with the cleanup.  While they were here, they did some additional painting I needed done.  Nice work all around.

"It went very smoothly. This was 125' of fencing and took 2 days, after which they cleaned up everything. We will definitely re-hire them should we have similar needs again in the future."

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.
