"I contacted them via email and received a return phone call the next day. They came out approximately one week later to give me an estimate. He gave me a verbal estimate before he left and followed up with a written estimate in email about two days later. When asbestos damages the lungs it causes a condition called “asbestosis” which, unfortunately, can’t be cured once it’s damaged the lungs. This condition is chronic and any treatment is undertaken to improve quality of life. This usually involves quitting smoking, being prescribed oxygen, and undergoing lung rehab. Severe cases usually require a lung transplant.

If you are trying to sell a home with asbestos siding, most jurisdictions force you to disclose this in official documentation about the home. Some potential buyers may not want to purchase a home with asbestos siding, which could negatively affect their health if the siding becomes disturbed. However, as long as the siding is in good condition, some buyers may not see it as a disadvantage. You could take on the cost to replace asbestos siding if you have concerns over this material affecting your home’s resale value.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned the use of asbestos pipe insulation in certain applications in 1975. It released further bans in 1989 and 2019. While asbestos pipe insulation was common from the 1930s to 1970s, its use fell off after the 1970s due to public concern and the EPA's actions.

Currently, there is no federal licensing mandate for asbestos removal contractors. However, certain cities and states require certification and specialized training.
