"My service is spotty at best. I need internet to conduct my business. The other day, they came out and shut off my service because it was "leaking." I understand that they have certain obligations, but no one contacted me about the issue, no one tried to schedule a time to fix it, they just shut it off. I was without internet for 3 days. I lost at least $800 worth of business over those three days and had to work at Starbucks to complete the contracts I already had. When I called to complain, they offered to credit me for the 3 days I was without service. And when I told them that was unacceptable, they told me that I should use someone else, then laughed and said "Oh, you can't. We're the only ones here." Seriously, if I had any other options I would dump them like a hot potato."

Landline Phone Service questions, answered by experts

Phone wiring in modern homes is commonly used for landline telephones, internet connections, and network setups.

Regular software updates, checking for loose connections, and protecting wires from physical damage help prevent issues.

The length of coax cable can affect the signal. Coax cables and their connectors all have a small amount of electrical resistance, which means that the longer the cable and more connectors in the system, the weaker the signal strength. In most homes, the signal loss is tiny, but systems with coax cable lengths over 100 feet will likely experience signal troubles.

For the average home office, you should only need one line. It’s uncommon to need more than one business line for a small or starting business. The exception is for the hard workers who manage multiple businesses out of their home and want a separate line for each to keep everything separate. In that case, it’s relatively easy to add another line with VoIP, but significantly more expensive for an analog/hardwired phone system.

After paying a contractor to install wires extending from the nearest phone pole, you can contact your local service provider to connect your service for a fee. Connecting to landline service costs about $20 to $270 upfront, and then you’ll spend anywhere from around $15 to $60 per month for this utility.
