"These guys were great! From Kevin who did the initial roof inspection and quote to Jose and the crew they did everything discussed and then some. I’ve some experience with roofing and considered their quote reasonable, fair and very competitive. My roof was about 33 squares worth and with about 3/4 of the old roof having two layers of shingles to remove they were able to complete it in one day. They used tarps around the entire house to cover flower beds and catch debris. I look forward to working with these guys in the future and will be recommending them to friends."

"I needed a new metal roof, gutters, & facia board replaced & I got a referral from a friend for Sims & I absolutely loved this company. Before I used him I called 2 additional references & all glowing plus I have recommended him for many other jobs & all clients have been very pleased. He was there when he said he would be & the work they did was superb. Plus he was the lowest bidder so that is a definite plus. Definitely recommend this company for any of your construction needs. "Very professional, friendly, and prompt service.  They took time to explain what had caused the damages to the roof and what needed to be done to prevent the damages from re-occurring.  Also, they explained the benefits of a full roof replacement vs just repairing the damaged area.

Roofing questions, answered by experts

If your roof has a vapor barrier, you will need approximately one square foot of roof vent for every 300 square feet of ceiling space. If there is no vapor barrier, the roof should have one square foot of roof vent for every 150 square feet of ceiling space. If you are not comfortable making this determination, a local roofing professional can help.

Ridge vents can last as long as your roof does. As long as your ridge vents were installed correctly by a qualified professional, they will need very little upkeep. Inspecting your ridge vents annually to ensure they aren’t cracked, clogged, or leaking will help prolong their lifespan.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.

While spotting a bit of algae on your roof may not bother you at first glance, it is certainly bothering your roof shingles. The presence of algae can cause decay and shorten the lifespan of your roof’s shingles, which can lead to much bigger problems down the road. While this issue may seem cosmetic at first glance, it goes much deeper than that.
