Customers say: Quick response

"The Litaker family and their workers did an awesome job on our newly purchased home in Searcy. We knew it needed a lot of work, especially outside. I dreaded the process of hiring contractors to do the renovation because of all the bad things I hear about contractors not showing up, doing shotty work, lack of communication, etc. After getting quotes from them and meeting them, we decided to use them over others we'd interviewed. They were the whole package and could do anything/everything so we didn't have to deal with multiple contractors to achieve our end goal. Their supply quotes (for new windows, paint, roofing shingles, etc) turned out to be very accurate and they stuck by their labor quotes as well. They installed all new windows, replaced rotten batten boards, painted the entire outside, installed new posts on a wrap around porch, waterproofed a balcony on the 2nd floor and added railing for safety, and installed a new roof on the 1.5 story home. They worked! They didn't hang around shooting the breeze! Rarely ever took any kind of break even for lunch. They actually showed up every day they were scheduled and were very easy to communicate with via telephone and text. The also offered advice on how to save money on our ideas which changed a few of our plans for the better. This was about a 3-4 week project to finalize. We have a few inside projects in the future and we will certainly hire them to come back when we are ready. Lastly, we really enjoyed their personalities. The crew was very personable =)"

"He did a great job, the building's been here for about 2 1/2 years. He knew what to do, how to do it, and it was very quick. I've recommended him to several men that I knew were having construction projects who also had good results."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Generally, a trenchless sewer line is worth the cost. If your old system needs replacement, trenchless sewer repair or replacement can save you thousands on excavation costs. Every homeowner’s situation is different, but this method is definitely worth it in a lot of cases.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

The rules and regulations regarding groundwater use vary between states. To find out if you can dig a well on your property, you’ll have to consult these regulations, address any compliance requirements, and get the appropriate permits. It’s also important to check that your intended location has the right geology and water table to support a well.

Some two-in-one tools and machines do both jobs, and those could be the right solution for smaller residential projects. However, the phrase “use the right tool for the job” definitely applies to digging. For the best results, get two separate tools for your trenching and landscape edging projects or call a pro to take care of everything for you.
