Small jobs welcome

"We’ve hired Fred Watson, Slash & Bang, numerous times for tree trimming to tree removal. On one occasion we even called him to come get our kittens out of a tree! Some of his work involved removing a large tree branch hanging over half of our home. Fred dropped it without a scratch"

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to G Solis Tree Services for their outstanding professionalism and exceptional workmanship. A skilled crew of four completed an extensive project on my property in just three days. Their scope of work included the safe removal of seven massive trees and hauling away three previously felled trees. Additionally, they cleared my fence line and thoroughly removed all surrounding debris, leaving the workspace completely immaculate. Given the scale and high quality of the labor, their pricing was incredibly competitive and fair. The team's efficiency, organization, and dedication to safety were exemplary. I am immensely grateful for their top-tier service and look forward to partnering with them again for all future tree management needs."

"Contacted Tru Cut and they gave me an estimate within 24hrs.  As I requested (hoping more leaves would fall), they waited one week to do the work.  We have a steep driveway with water run-off "ditches" on either side that go behind the garage and down to the lake.  They cleaned the ditches, our driveway/parking pad, and the back yard.  The job was excellent.  Will definitely hire them again.

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Horticulturist is a broad term for any type of plant and soil expert. An arborist, meanwhile, specializes in all aspects of tree care. You should hire an arborist when you need assistance with tree-related tasks, such as pruning large trees, removing trees, diagnosing a sick tree, or emergency tree services. Horticulturists aren’t qualified to handle those types of tasks.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

Some people prefer to leave or even carve a leftover stump, but we recommend removing it if possible. You can often dig out smaller trunks with a shovel once they have died and dried out. You can have stumps professionally removed, or request a service to grind them down to ground level so they can be replaced with other landscaping or objects.

Often, it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to handle the aftermath when a neighbor’s tree falls on their property. But if a tree has been obviously dead for a significant period of time and caused damage when it fell, a case can be made that the owner should have removed it, especially if the neighbor wrote you a letter about the tree or asked you to take it down. This can be grounds for a successful lawsuit in claims court and is a good reason to always pay attention to your trees and remove dead trees before they fall.
