"In 2024, I spent about $20,000 with PI Roofing on a new roof and fascia repair. Within six months an area where they replaced the fascia detached from my house. This spring my roof has a leak. During the quote phase, they told me they'd haul off an old TV antenna. (It is still here). After the job was finished there were roofing materials left in my driveway. (I had to call to get those picked up). When I signed this contract, my Dad made fun of me for spending so much. I thought it would be worth it because of the warranty. I was even excited about the promised roof checkup they provide free in the first year, but it turns out you will not get the free checkup unless you demand it. And the warranty doesn't cover all that much. I have dealt with some very nice people at this company and have avoided writing a negative review for quite some time, but the bottom line is I cannot recommend this company. I have to believe there are better roofing businesses in the area."

Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). Wood siding lasts anywhere from 20 to 40 years on average. This can vary greatly depending on the type of wood, weather conditions, and how well you maintain your siding. For instance, hot, wet climates may shorten the life span of wood by exposing it to UV rays, mold, and pests. Staying on top of painting, staining, and repairing your wood siding can add years to its life span by protecting it from the elements.

Fiber cement siding will last an average of 50 years, but you could get up to 70 years of useful life out of yours with proper maintenance. All types of siding, including fiber cement, will have shorter lifespans in extreme climates, as salt, impact from blown debris, heavy rain, and intense sunshine can all limit siding lifespan.

When it comes to fiber cement siding maintenance, it’s not too much work. However, it needs to be painted about every 15 years and may need to be re-caulked to prevent mold. Be sure to also wash your fiber cement siding with a lower-powered garden hose at least twice a year to avoid buildup and fading as well.

Whether or not your homeowners insurance covers EIFS stucco siding depends on the insurance company and the specifics of the policy. Some insurance companies will not cover EIFS due to its susceptibility to moisture damage, and some companies will only cover EIFS manufactured and installed after a certain date, since newer systems mitigate potential damage concerns better than older ones.
