Customers say: True professional

"Painting and so much more! Ernesto and his crew built our new composite deck for us. They handled everything--tear out and disposal of the old deck and construction of the new deck from the foundation up. It has transformed our back yard. They also rebuilt our wooden privacy fence with the same quality workmanship. We could not be happier with the work they have done for us and we will definitely be using them again in the future. We found out about Ernesto from another family who had him handle a major deck construction project, and that turned out beautifully. After seeing this we called Ernesto for a bid, and within a couple of weeks we were enjoying our new deck. If you're considering a deck or fencing project I highly recommend Ernesto and his crew. They are professional, prompt and they complete their work on time and on budget."

"I am ecstatic about the awesome job that the Brush Brothers done on our back patio. We extended our patio to approximately 600 square feet and sent pictures both to our contractor and to the concrete supervisor what we wanted the color and marble stain to look like. But when it was done it was a disaster, and both said that was the best they could do. So I called and spoke with Devon, business partner with the Brush Brothers. I explained my frustration and disappointment on my patio, this project has been going on for over 6 months. He was exceptionally nice and informative when I told him my problem and seemed even excited the that he knew his guys could help me out. He said he would call me right back with a date and time the brothers could come and take a look at my project. Jake and Brett Brush both came and looked at my project and explained what they could do. They brought samples, paint schemes and was so determined to give me the patio I had waited so long to have. Within just a few days I had the prettiest patio I could ever imagine. I could not be more excited or pleased with the job they completed for me. They took their time, made sure every step of the process was what I wanted. I even requested along the way for them to add in gold flakes and gold glitter. They had never done this before but was willing to try anything I asked. Surprisingly it turned out better than any of us could of expected. I just want to say thanks so much to the Brush Brothers for their hard work and caring attitude for being a customer pleasing company that takes pride in their"

"The job was perfect from design to completion.  You cannot see any nails or seams in the wood.  Outstanding job!  In fact, we are going to have him do another deck asap.

"Posting this as a referral/recommendation for Richard at CRG General Construction. We had them do: - Raise our deck 4 inches in the center (was sagging). - Replace a 10 ft. section of fence that was sagging and needed new fence posts. - Replace a 6 foot section of fence + new gate. - Power wash and stain ~250 feet of fence and our deck (8x16ft) with cosmetic touch ups to the deck (replacing handrails, balusters). Overall great job done, very responsive and done at half the price of other contractors I talked to. Only issue we ran into was rain pushing out our time to stain a couple of times in May. Would recommend for similar projects. He says they do anything interior of the house as well so give him a shout if you have a project you need help with."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Adding a second coat of stain to wood can even out the color to some extent, but it won't drastically alter the hue if the initial application is too light or too dark. It's more effective at enhancing the richness of the color rather than significantly changing it. Ensure the first coat is dry before applying the second.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

A concrete overlay is often the most cost-effective way to resurface a pool deck. To do this, you’ll need to pour a thin layer of concrete over the existing pool deck, which you can customize by stamping or painting. A stamped concrete overlay provides additional traction on a pool deck that can help minimize the risk of people slipping and falling.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.
