Customers say: Quick response

"Dustin Henderson and his crew did what they said they would do! They cleaned up and made sure that I was satisfied with the end Project. Not knowing much about roofing, it made me feel good when direct tv came out to readjust the dish after they put shingles under it. He said "Ive seem a lot of roof jobs, but this one is one of the best I've seen. They knew what they were doing". I would recommend them to others! Don"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Yes, capped chimneys should still be vented. Failing to vent a chimney will result in condensation buildup inside the chimney, which commonly results in mold growth. If mold begins to grow in a chimney, it frequently goes undetected and spreads quickly through the home. Mold and moisture can damage the structural integrity of your home, and exposure to mold can cause discomfort and illness in residents.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says that chimneys and their associated elements like fireplaces, vents, or stoves should be cleaned at least once a year before the start of seasonal use. According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America, a chimney should be cleaned when there is 1/8 inch of soot buildup. If there’s more than that, creosote—a flammable byproduct of burning wood—can form and increase the risk of a chimney fire.

Maintain smoke alarms, ensure safe electrical and cooking practices, and regularly clean chimneys to minimize fire or smoke hazards.

You can research your fireplace insert or retrofit by checking out the EPA wood stove database. The database includes information, such as a model's emission rate, efficiency, and carbon dioxide output.

A fireplace that doesn’t require a chimney is simply called a chimneyless fireplace. Don’t confuse these with ventless fireplaces, however. There are some fireplaces that require ventilation via a system of pipes, not a chimney. More specifically, the fireplace in question will likely be called by its name, such as electric, ethanol, or balanced flue.
