Small jobs welcome

"I attempted to do Butcher Block counter top by myself, only to damage it. Had to go out and buy another piece. Instead of risking more damage I got ahold of B's Counter tops in Goshen and was able to drop it off with my measurements at their location and the very next day called to say it was ready. Nervously I showed up to pick it up and to my delight they had it put together just how I was hoping!! At a very reasonable price to boot. Very friendly and a life saver, Thanks Barkley and Tom."

"Miller and his colleagues were able to do a lot of things quickly. Along with everything else, they also grabbed some old furniture that I needed help moving to the curb. They took several cares to make sure nothing was damaged during the move, including wrapping the furniture, turning off all the lights, and packaging the picture frames."

"Marco, of Rose Lawn and Landscaping LLC, did an excellent job in getting my lawn back. Marco is very nice and friendly. He has a great work ethic and works very efficiently. He restored my lawn/yard back to the way I kept it. I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs this type of work done."

Hauling questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can recycle a small appliance. In some cases, a small appliance is one of the easiest to recycle because it’s  easy to transport and is in high demand for use as scrap metal. The most common recyclable items include toasters, slow cookers, lamps and lighting, microwaves, and food processors. Charitable organizations, scrap yards and utility companies are good places to recycle your small appliance.

If you have a large number of leftover roots, shrub branches, rocks, and soil to remove from your stump removal project, you may need to call a professional junk removal service. A small truckload of junk removal costs between $75 and $125 to haul away. You may also have a free composting center in your area where you can haul the materials on your own.

Yes, if you have a vehicle suitable for transporting concrete, you can manually load the pieces, drive to the dump, and dispose of the concrete. If you have access to a public dump, you may not have to pay per visit, but private dumps will usually charge based on the weight and type of debris. As you can imagine, dumping concrete can get expensive using a private dump site. Hiring a professional concrete disposal company is usually a better option to get the job done quickly and safely.

Several types of items aren't allowed in roll-off dumpsters. First of all, hazardous materials and hazardous liquids are a no-go. This includes asbestos, oil, wet paint and other materials. Other banned items include batteries, electronics with lithium batteries, propane tanks, tires, and appliances with refrigerants. Some areas have shifting requirements (for instance, certain locations do not allow mattresses), so check with your local regulatory agency.

While tipping junk haulers is not required or expected, it is a greatly appreciated gesture for a job well done. Many junk removal companies state that tips are welcome but not mandatory. A good rule of thumb is to tip between 10% and 20% of the total bill, or a flat amount of $10 to $20 per worker. For exceptional service, a tip of $20 to $50 for the entire crew is also appropriate. It is often best to give cash directly to each worker at the end of the job.

Consider tipping if the crew:

  • Goes above and beyond your expectations.

  • Handles heavy, bulky items or navigates difficult spaces like tight hallways or stairs.

  • Works in inclement weather or deals with potentially hazardous materials.

  • Takes extra care to protect your home and property.

  • Accommodates a last-minute scheduling change.
