"We have two decks, one on the front of the house, and a large deck on the rear.  We've taken pretty good care of the decks over the years and have stained and sealed them every 3-4 years.  It was time to do it again! I called three of the top rated companies from Angie's List and set up appointments for them to look and the job and give us a quote. All three showed up as scheduled, and provided emailed quotes within a couple of days, as agreed.  I was happy with all three of them.  They all appeared to be sincere and honest, and I'm sure that any of them would have done a good job.  I was most impressed with Eric Cooley. He asked questions, gave me options, and explained his recommendations. My impressions were that I wanted Eric to do the job if his quote was in line with the others.  When all the quotes were in, his was the most reasonable, and, by far, the most complete and detailed as to what he was going to do.  I called him and gave him the go ahead to do the work.  He sent Michael out to do the job which began with a very thorough cleaning job on both decks, a great deal of which was done on his hands and knees.  The decks were not really that dirty, but when he was done, they were spotless!  Michael came back after the decks had completely dried and began hand painting the decks. To say that he did a great job would be an understatement. I watched him smoothing out brush strokes and giving our decks the attention that I would expect from an interior job!  Michael went way above and beyond what I expected, and I had high expectations.  The decks look fantastic and I'm extremely pleased with the job that Cooley Painting and Michael did for us.  I can't wait for the next project so that I can use their services again!

"They did a beautiful and fantastic job. I like working with them because they make me feel good whenever I asked them a question and they were very clear and thrall. They finished earlier and they were accurate and specific."

"Noe is very conscientious and meticulous in his work. He's very receptive to feedback and follows through on things he says he will do. His pricing is very fair and reasonable. He can do a myriad of home improvement projects. I would highly recommend him, and, in fact, plan to use him for other work in my home."

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it is generally better to remove it first to guarantee a smooth, professional finish. Painting over wallpaper can save time, but it may lead to issues if not done correctly.

You can paint over existing wallpaper if it is in excellent condition: smooth, non-textured, clean, and firmly adhered to the wall. Ensure there are no bumps, tears, or peeling areas, and that all corners and seams are securely glued down. You might also consider painting over wallpaper if removing it would damage the underlying wall. Additionally, some wallpapers are specifically designed to be paintable, which can add texture to a room.

However, there are risks. If the wallpaper is textured, damaged, or peeling, these imperfections will show through the new paint. The moisture from the paint can also loosen the wallpaper's adhesive, causing it to bubble and potentially damage the wall. To mitigate these issues, clean the surface thoroughly and use an oil-based primer to help the paint adhere and prevent the old adhesive from bleeding through.

Wallpaper lasts an average of around 15 years, but there is some variance. The type of wallpaper matters, as vinyl wallpaper tends to last the longest—sometimes 20 years or more—while a peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is the easiest to install for DIYers, will usually only last for around five years. Exposure to high humidity, smoke, and UV rays from sunlight can also limit the lifespan of your wallpaper, as can heavy traffic in the installation area.

When comparing peel-and-stick and traditional wallpaper, the better choice depends on your specific needs and space. Peel-and-stick wallpaper is more budget-friendly and easier to DIY install. On the other hand, traditional wallpaper lasts much longer and holds up better in a wider variety of spaces, including areas with moisture like kitchens and bathrooms.

To remove adhesive-backed wallpaper, you’ll need to soften the adhesive before you try peeling the wallpaper off the walls. You may wonder whether peel-and-stick wallpaper damages walls. It can depend on the removal method. Make sure to be patient and consider using a steamer, hair dryer, or adhesive remover to carefully take down adhesive-backed wallpaper.

Using a fabric softener solution is a popular and low-cost DIY method for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited. While it may work on some types of wallpaper, it is unlikely to be successful on vintage styles, and there is no evidence that it is more effective than other removal methods. There are also several potential downsides: the solution can leave behind a residue that may damage your walls or interfere with the adhesion of new wallpaper. Additionally, this method can create a strong, overpowering aroma that takes a long time to dissipate, making it a poor choice for homeowners sensitive to smells.
