"Discussed family color, time frame and setup 1st meeying. He sized up job, we looked at samples he brought and showed me what it would look like on his tablet. Scheduled install at my convenience. Install countertops and will return to address a couple areas that needs attention (minor). The countertop is gorgeous. Would recommend they."

"I was at a lost what to do with my cabinets.I had attempted to do the DIY thing and found out that is not for every one. Mr. Guinn called me back , came out quickly which was the 1ST thing I was pleased with. Gave me a fair estimate the 2nd thing I was pleased with. HE DID AN EXCELLANT JOB & I would recommend him to anyone. My only regret is I donot have pictures to show at this time."

"He was VERY courteous and nice. And so was the guy working with him. They came in on a Saturday to try and get it done, but had to wait and let the sub floors dry out through the weekend and come back on Monday. But they have been great through it all. I even made a mistake on the check, and instead of taking advantage of me he had his bank call and make it right. I would DEFINITELY hire him again, and plan too in the very near future. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Butcher block countertops typically last around 20 years, and sometimes longer, with proper maintenance. This lifespan is comparable to granite and longer than laminate. Key maintenance tasks include regular cleaning after every use and resealing, ideally once a month. You can also sand and resurface the countertops to remove imperfections like deep scratches, stains, dings, and scorch marks. The longevity is also affected by the thickness of the wood strips used in its construction; thicker strips are generally more durable.

Countertop overlays can be a worthwhile investment for homeowners looking for an affordable and fuss-free way to update their kitchens without a full replacement. The installation process is budget-friendly, saves time and labor, and can often be completed in a single day as it doesn't require demolition. Overlays are installed directly over the pre-existing countertop, with material options including quartz, granite, and recycled glass. However, for the overlay to be long-lasting, it is crucial that the underlying surface is properly prepped to ensure strong adhesion.

The best way to save money on countertop installation is to choose an affordable material. For example, if you have a busy kitchen and need durability, choose a more affordable but lasting material like granite countertops. Likewise, if you don't use your countertops often, you can use a softer material that costs less than more sturdy ones.

Another way to cut costs is to remove and dispose of the existing countertops yourself, if possible. That way, countertop installers can get straight to placing the new feature, reducing labor costs.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.

Granite countertops can last for 100 years or more with proper maintenance, even in high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms. Granite can crack, stain, or fade over time, like any countertop material, but it’s a highly durable option that should offer a lifetime of use. Some ways to increase the longevity of granite countertops include regularly cleaning the surface, especially after spills, avoiding sharp objects directly on the countertop, and resealing the material every few years.
