"Work started when promised. Hard fast workers. Moved quicker than I thought. Actual pour was delayed due to a concrete truck malfunction, but when delivery was rescheduled, they worked to finish before dark. This was not an issue or inconvenience for me. The easiest way to handle extra-wet cement is to pour it, let it harden, and then recycle it using one of the methods above. You can also crush it down and sell it for base materials, although this can be pretty time-consuming. Your best bet is to start with less concrete than you need and make more as you go to avoid this problem.

Sealing resurfaced concrete is not an absolute necessity. However, it is recommended, and in most cases, a high-quality concrete sealer can protect the surface from stains as well as water penetration, extending the life of the resurfacing material. Some sealers are formulated to protect pigments from fading due to UV exposure. Sealer tends to enhance the colors in decorative resurfacing applications, making them more vibrant and richer compared to the duller, more faded appearance of concrete colors without sealer.

Periodic sealing and cleaning to maintain appearance and integrity.

Small cracks should be filled with a flexible crack filler, like a rubberized asphalt-emulsion crack filler or a flexible masonry crack filler. Larger cracks need something a bit more solid to prevent further movement and to avoid having to use too much of the flexible filler. For concrete, you can use a concrete backer rod while asphalt can handle sand, gravel, or even dirt.

Concrete blemishes such as chipped steps or small cracks are fixable with patching. For bigger jobs, including driveway repair and cracks wider than a 1/4 of an inch, patches will only serve as a temporary fix. Resurfacing is ideal when the surface is showing more widespread wear—like if it’s pitted, rough, or has lots of cracks. Resurfacing gives your concrete a fresh, like-new appearance without needing a full replacement.

When the concrete is severely cracked, sinking, or otherwise structurally unsound, replacing it might be your best option. Replacement ensures the safety and longevity of the surface in this case.
