Small jobs welcome

"Does an amazing job. We had a large deck built onto our house.Very professional, always showed up on time. Price was very fair, especially for the quality of craftsmanship. He does not cut corners to rush anything. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in what he builds. Deck turned out perfect, built to last and very sturdy. Would highly recommend."

Small jobs welcome

"Chris did more than just a fence. While he was here he also stained our log cabin home and he explained when we would need to stain it again, he didn't just build a beautiful fence around my home but he also built one around the ac unit to keep my dog out, also he help me on small task out of his kindess: move a cement block out of the way of the fence that I couldn't lift, make a hole for my chicken coop so the lamp cord would go though, and he even cared about how to explain for everything how to maintain thre fence for it to last for years. Chris and his dad are really kind hearted people who care about the quality of work they do. My husband and I both adore their character and them as people. We are planning to have them back for soon future projects."

"I hired JPL Handymen to build my deck. After seeing what a good job they did, I hired them to paint the inside of my house andpressure wash the outside of my house. I will definitely hire them again for their professionalism and quality of work."

"They did a good job. I was just hoping it would stop my wood floors from creaking but they are worse. Overall believe the work done will be good for the house support though"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.
