"Absolutely have only the best things to say (and think) about this gentleman and his crews. In the week after Hurricane Sally, I called two tree services I'd used in the past decade (spending thousands each time.) One didn't bother to respond after two calls and an email and the other showed up the next day, promising to send his crew the next week but he had to charge for a half day ($3200) although he said there was only about an hour's worth of work. So I paid in advance. (You know the punchline on this so go ahead and roll your eyes.) And the next week he texted that he thought he might get to it in a couple of weeks. The happy ending to this story is that since I had to replace trees and plants and sod, I'd left a message for Mr. Martiniere. He showed up, honestly said that I'd be about 4-6 months out but when I told him about the tree guy, he said that he had six crews out all over town and if something went wrong to give him a call. I called the same day (right after receiving the text from the tree guy) and in two hours Mr. Martiniere's crews arrived and cut up all the trees, safely removed one from the roof, blew out and removed what looked like a football field's worth of wet leaves that were everywhere including behind the hedges AND when they came back from lunch they brought fence boards back and nailed them in so we could get the dogs from the boarding kennel! All this for less than half the price of the tree guy. So there you have it: the story of a formerly honorable tradesman corrupted by a catastrophe and an epic tale of an incredible businessman who takes care of his personnel and clients. Just remember, if it's not an emergency, you're going to need to be patient."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant a tree is in the spring, so the roots have time to grow into the surrounding soil before winter sets in. Some people recommend planting in the late fall. However, planting in the spring reduces the stress on the tree, as it will be emerging from dormancy, giving it the full spring and summer ahead to acclimate and put down roots into the soil.

There are several potential disadvantages to choosing xeriscaping for your yard. For one, it can take a lot of hard labor and dedication to get your xeriscape up and running, and the project costs an average of {AvgCost}. Your lawn will also have less of a traditional green appearance, potentially decreasing your pool of potential buyers if you decide to sell. On a personal note, you also might not like having less greenery in your yard.

Yes, you can absolutely transplant bushes instead of removing them completely. The success depends on the size of the bushes, their age, and the transplanting season. Ideally, transplant during the dormant season (late fall or winter). Dig out the entire root system in one piece, fill the new hole with fresh soil and mulch, and water thoroughly after planting.

A green home is one that focuses on conservation, with the goal often being net-zero carbon emissions and self-sustainability. It will often include some kind of self-generation equipment, like solar panels or a small wind turbine, high-efficiency electrical components and mechanicals, and high-quality insulation and air sealing to reduce the loss of conditioned air. Many green homes also include xeriscaping or rainwater collection to cut down on drainage and water consumption.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.
