"Use this guy at your own risk. Problem number one. After paying him nearly $10,000 to install a new heat-pump, he asked if he could leave the old one in my yard and pick it up the following weekend, since he had a problem with his truck. I agreed. When I talked to him the following weekend, he asked if it would be OK to come the next weekend. After being a no-show for the next two weeks, he simply stopped responding to text messages or voice mail. Problem number two. I discovered that Ingram's idea of sealing the flue access to the crawl space under my house was to pile dirt around the bottom of the sheet metal. It all makes me wonder what other aspects of this installation did he find too much trouble to do properly. You should look elsewhere for a reputable service company."

"Clemons refused to service the brand new unit after reporting it wasn't cooling properly. After leaving multiple messages on the answering machine and talking to one of the Clemons over the phone, I called Craig Comfort to fix the cooling problem. Turns out the unit was overcharged with coolent, and the air ducts we're loose. The ducts and the return were also improperly installed. Clemons also did not register my unit, so instead of a 10 year warranty, it's now 5."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

No, fixing or patching a hole in a gas line may not seal it completely. A patch should be a temporary solution because the damaged area will be weaker than the rest of the pipe, increasing the likelihood of future leaks. Therefore, if a gas line incurs damage, call a licensed plumber and have it replaced right away.

A few factors determine the amount of time it takes to convert from an oil to a gas furnace, mainly adding in the gas lines, updating your appliances, removing the old oil system, and installing a chimney line. These projects can vary, but you should expect them to take at least two or three days to complete.

Replacing a gas valve on a water heater will take a professional plumber between 1 and 1½ hours. However, they may require extra time to diagnose the problem with your water heater, particularly since so many of the surrounding parts work together. Speak with your plumber before the job to confirm the pre-hour price and the approximate length of the job.

If your home uses more than one gas appliance, you'll continue to use gas, even outside of the heating season. Your water heater, gas stove and oven, and gas dryer will all use some gas, although typically much less than a furnace. Additionally, those appliances may also have a pilot light that is lit continually, using a small amount even when no one is at home.

Natural gas companies advise only shutting off the gas supply at the meter yourself if you smell natural gas or suspect there is a leak, typically following an emergency. Instead, you can shut off gas to individual appliances when necessary. If you want to turn off your natural gas entirely, you should contact your utility company. You’ll generally also need to acquire a permit to work on your natural gas line.
