"Called on a Saturday and problem was taken care of promptly. It was even more expensive than normal since it was on the weekend. Plumber did a good job. Plumber had to remove commode and run the snake through the line to unstop it and reset commode."

"Shane traced my problem to overflow of septic tank, and recommended that I have septic tank work done. He did not try to get me to have unecessary plumbing work done. Ben Franklin Plumbing responded with same-day service and sent a skilled plumber who understood my problem and did not try to cash iin by selling me services I didnâ t need. Thanks Shane!"

Customers say: Quality work

"My house is not very wide, but the roof is rather steep, so the gutters had to be able to handle a lot of water when the rainstorms are severe. The crew that did the work was on time, and apparently knew what they were doing, because the job was completed in just two hours. They took, the old gutters with them when they left, as well. The new gutters have worked out extremely well. I have not had water come over the edge of the gutters, like the old ones."

"Joe Heater and his assistance, Josh, did a very professional job replace my tub with a walk in shower. The shower is beautiful and looks very professional installed. Joe and Josh were both very polite, did not goof off, worked very hard for two days. My shower was larger than the average is the reason it took two days. They kept everything cleaned up as they went, no mess left behind. I highly recommend this company!!!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Most people choose PVC, or polyvinyl chloride/plastic, for their sewer line material. PVS has many advantages over other types of pipes. Mainly, PVC can resist corrosion and chemical damage, is lightweight (making it easier to install), is budget-friendly, and has an impressive life span (typically around 100 years).

Yes, you can fix pipe threads. In fact, the process is the same as cutting new ones. You’ll need to use a pipe threader tool with the proper size die head for the pipe. Turning the threader over the damaged threads will clean up any damaged or worn-out threads in the pipe. If the pipe threads are too damaged, this process may not work, and you’ll need to replace the pipe.

You can temporarily patch a leaking copper pipe using epoxy putty or adhesive tape. These are not permanent solutions, and you will eventually need to remove and replace the damaged portion of the pipe.

For a smaller pinhole, you can solder it closed using plumbing flux. Again, this is only a temporary solution, but it will give you time to hire a plumber and go over your options.

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.

You should never pour antifreeze down the drain or outside on the ground. Because it's highly toxic, antifreeze can still impact people and animals long after it drains. Antifreeze can contaminate water and sewage systems, and any that gets into storm drains and water supplies can attract animals and harm those that ingest it.
