"The Stump needing removal was the remnants of a tree which had been cut in order to replace septic tank field lines. This particular tree was over 40 years in age and its trunk and route system were grown and gnarled and tangled through not soil but stone primarily. There was a matte of surface roots covering the lower part of the driveway and across the top of this very steep and dangerous location. When Shannon pulled in with his trailer holding a piece of equipment I have never seen the likes of before that day. That piece of equipment was designed to grind a stump in the way a caterpillar moves. The equipment is from all appearances fastidiously maintained and to get to the start it had to make its way across a wide open trench which we covered in three-quarter inch plywood sheets in order to keep the equipment safe. This was the only route to get to the stump which sat on the crest of a steep, well very steep hill. It was amazing to see how adept Shannon is in managing that complex a piece of equipment he was using for this job. I had had two other attempts made to remove the stump and I figured when I saw that Swiss engineered Caterpillar looking thing that this was the piece of equipment and the right man to do the job. It was a dangerous and difficult job and I cannot think Shannon enough for his skills, kindness and consideration, his respect for my property, removing all of the debris so that the septic tank team could come back in the next day to resume their work, and for just being a great guy. Thanks to Shannon I had running water and septic tank service within a couple of days again. Shannon, well done."

"I had Cornerstone Tree Service cut down 4 trees. Two of these 4 trees were huge 160 foot tall pine trees close to my house but only a few feet from our high voltage power lines. I had trouble trying to find a service that would cut these trees down and worried about workmen’s safety in doing so. But Kerry Miller gave me a reasonable price for cutting these trees & convinced me that he has the equipment to not only do it safely but also quickly. Crew showed up ahead of schedule and had all 4 of these trees cut down in sections, loaded into a grapple truck, and hauled off leaving my yard in perfect condition and clean of debris. Hundreds of daffodils were in the area where these trees were cut down and none of them were disturbed. The robotic crane with its own chainsaw was amazing to watch. It would grab the truck of these pine trees and then while holding the tree cut the truck just below where it was being held and then lowing the cut section safely to the ground. Don Smaha"

"Juan and his crew were outstanding to work with. They were kind, respectful, and communicated clearly throughout the entire process. They took the time to explain exactly what they planned to do, how long it would take, and made sure everything was organized with a clear plan in place. The quality of their work exceeded expectations. They removed and hauled off all the trees, mowed the lawn, cleared out dead leaves by raking, bagging, and hauling them away, and cleaned up all the vines along the side of the house. They also pressure washed the patio and sidewalks, and trimmed back any branches hanging over the home. Everything was completed thoroughly and professionally, and the property looks significantly better. I would highly recommend Juan and his crew to anyone needing landscaping services."

Small jobs welcome

"I don't know that my project would have ever moved forward without Pricila's help from Citrine Landscape. I had been very slowly moving some old gravel from around a large tree to prepare for a new flower bed. After working on this myself for over a year, I finally broke down and called in reinforcements. Pricila arrived early Monday morning as we planned and by lunchtime the job was done. I'm beyond happy not only to have it done but also with how thorough and careful she was. We're already in the planning phases of getting my new flower bed installed. If you find yourself in need of any landscape work done, I wholeheartedly suggest you give Pricila a call.Â"

"The contractor arrived at my home on time but once I explained that the tuck pointing I needed done was on the top of my chimney, he explained that they did not do work that high off the ground due to Workers Comp Insurance. I thanked the gentleman for coming out and we parted company."

"Joe came to our house and did some excavating due to a build up of trees, rock and stumps. Before this work was done; We could not tell how big our backyard was. After the work was done; We could see the entire 1/2 acre backyard. Our grandkids love it!!!!! You will not be disappointed."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

No, you typically cannot use metal detectors to find your sewer line. Most sewer lines are made of non-metallic materials such as PVC, clay, or cast iron, which are not detectable by standard metal detectors. Metal detectors are designed to locate metallic objects, so they won't be effective for identifying the path of a non-metallic sewer line. To locate your sewer line accurately, it's best to use other methods.

Slab foundations are more affordable than crawl spaces because they require minimal excavation, as the slab sits directly on the ground or on footers that only sink a few feet into the ground. Crawl spaces require excavation of the entire footprint of the home to several feet below the surface. Not only does that mean higher labor costs, but more materials are necessary for the concrete foundation walls.

As a general rule, the protected area should be about 1½ times as wide as the canopy of the tree’s leaves. This digging measurement can vary by tree species and the age of the tree. Of course, that can be a lot of fencing for larger trees, which is why our first step is about making difficult decisions on which trees to save.
