It’s less expensive to leave your hot tub on all the time, though you’ll want to keep it at a reduced temperature. How much you use the hot tub is also a factor. Because of the water pump and jet mechanism, you need to be more selective with products for a jetted tub than you would for a traditional bathtub in order to keep it functioning properly and avoid expensive repairs. These products also leave residue that can feed mildew and mold, so it’s best to avoid them.

Whether you can repair a hot tub depends on the severity of the problem and the location. With the right tools and knowledge, you can fix problems like small leaks or switching out a dirty filter. However, electrical and plumbing issues require a licensed professional due to the inherent risk, particularly when mixing water with electricity.
