"I had hired Beaver Tree Services to remove a huge oak tree in 2019. I hired them again in October 2025 to remove several trees, plus top off all the trees along my fence line. I was soooo impressed with the way they worked. Every man was able to move effortlessly from one machine to another. It was like watching an orchestra. They removed the lower limbs off a fifty foot (estimation) tall Leyland Cypress tree. This tree was an evergreen, it was dumping needles on my deck, always creating a mess of needles to blow off the deck. After removing the lower limbs up about 6 feet, they grabbed the trunk with a special machine, about the size of a Bobcat. That kept the tree from falling anywhere, they were able to back up, reposition the tree so that they could pick it up with the machine and feed it into a chipper. This tree had a trunk about 10 or 11 inches in diameter. This is how they handled every tree. They left the property cleaned up of any debris. They are very capable."

Unless there’s some sort of rule in your community’s homeowners’ association that requires you to remove a stump, there’s no law that says you have to take it out. If you’re not wedded to the idea of removing it, there are plenty of ways to get creative with this tree remnant. You don’t have a right to a view, so if you have a tree that’s near the property line but on your neighbor’s property, you can’t cut it to be able to take in a majestic mountain or a beautiful sunrise. In some communities, however, there are ordinances protecting scenic views. Checking into your local laws can help you determine your rights in this situation.

Tree removal costs typically don’t include stump removal, as that technically falls into a different service. The company you hire may offer the service for an additional fee; ask them if they offer it to ensure you get the best tree stump removal costs possible.

Whether you grind or dig up and remove your tree stump depends on your landscaping goals. Using a stump grinder leaves the root system in place for it to decompose over time, whereas digging up the tree stump removes the roots and the stump. Overall, stump grinding is a far simpler process since you won’t need to deal with the roots. Stump removal will make your yard look like a demolition site, but you’ll have an easier time replanting in the same place as your former tree.
