"I requested quote for replacing my heat pump with comparable new one.  Representative came out, inspected my current equipment, gave me a detailed quote for two different systems on the spot, noting the reasons for the differences in cost.  I chose one of the options.  They were able to install it within 3 days.  They showed me where a cabinet was blocking breaker switches for the heat pump.  They unloaded and moved the cabinet to a different location, and covered the breaker switch access panel with a metal plate to keep my cats from coming in.  They were pleasant and professional.
Comparing them to the other company who gave me a quote:  Their written estimate included the model number and efficiency ratings, which the other company did not.  My research showed their brand to be of higher quality than their competitor's.  Also, it was about $2000 cheaper.

"Mr. Coffee is a hero who risks his health daily to help mitigate dangerous radon problems for strangers who call for help. This is a dangerous job with daily high radon exposure and when I asked, he said he is aware of the risks but gets his health scanned multiple times a year. I called Covenant Air back in December after noticing that my Safety Siren Pro radon detector kept reaching alarm. Mr. Coffee came out and assessed that I could probably fix the problem myself by sealing some obvious cracks, especially around some pipes, and recommended the products so that I can do it cheap DIY. He was obviously not pushy to scare people into signing contracts, but actually tried to dissuade me from hiring him right off on installing sub slab depressurization. Although the DYI route he recommended would've been cheaper, I hired him to performs the job. The sealing did bring the radon level down where my detector's alarm didn't go off, but I wanted to lower it as much as possible. He then recommended a passive ventilation route given my reading. The passive ventilation again slashed the radon level in half, but I wanted the radon level down even further, so I ultimately opted to install the fan after weeks of data collection and analysis. He installed the fan so that I could easily turn it off to save energy based on seasonal variations. He is a very personable and methodical person, and prefers to monitor the progress of his work so that his customers don't hastily incur unnecessary cost. You almost never see someone like that in the service industry, and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

"The install was completed within a reasonable time frame. The install crew was courteous and professional. The business owner is knowledgeable, professional and personable. He seems like a really nice guy, though really busy as well. He used very good quality materials (above average) and professionally installed same to manufacturers and industry specifications.
Bad: the installers damaged my HVAC unit (partially crushed by falling debris) while on site and they left debris inside my building.
Good: the owner acknowledged the damaged HVAC unit his crew caused and discounted his Invoice to partially offset the diminished value to the unit. Importantly, he pledged to repair the unit if/when it fails as a result of the damage his crew caused. He was apologetic and quick to respond to the matter.
Good: this firm offered a Ten (10) Year labor, installation and material warranty on their work. That's above average.
Good: the price was very reasonable for the work performed. The crew did a very good job, despite damaging the HVAC unit. Nothing, it seems, ever quite goes as planned and accidents happen. What matters is how the unplanned or accidental issues are addressed and resolved. Cobalt's owner did the right thing and while I hope I don't have to call him to repair/replace my HVAC unit, I know that if I do he will take care of it and do the right thing. His business, reputation and credibility depend on his word.
Overall: good experience.

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

You can use a boiler and a furnace, although it’s not common to use both for whole-house heating. For example, your furnace may take care of HVAC heating through your vents, while a boiler powers your floor-based radiant heating in the bathrooms. Mixing and matching like this gives homeowners a variety of heating possibilities.

All modern boilers are condensing boilers because they’re the most efficient type. Instead of extra heat leaving through the flue, these boilers trap the heat and use it to heat the house. Whether you choose a combi boiler, system boiler, or regular boiler, you can opt to get a condensing system. If you have an old boiler that’s not a condensing boiler, it’s a good idea to get an upgrade.

Yes, government incentives and programs are available to encourage energy-efficient upgrades in many regions. These incentives may include tax credits, rebates, grants, and low-interest loans for homeowners who invest in energy-efficient improvements such as HVAC system upgrades, insulation, and efficient windows. The availability and specific details of these incentives can vary by location, so check with your local government or utility company to explore your options.

The average lifespan of a boiler is typically between 15 and 20 years, though some may last for as little as 10 years while others can reach 30. A boiler's longevity is influenced by several factors, including the quality of the unit, proper installation, and consistent professional maintenance.

The material also plays a significant role. Older boilers made from durable cast iron can last for over 20 years, with some functioning for up to 50 years. However, it's important to consider their lower efficiency, which can lead to higher utility bills. Modern boilers, often made from steel alloys, are designed to withstand high pressure and temperatures and have an average lifespan of about 20 years.

To maximize your boiler's lifespan, ensure it is installed correctly, have it professionally maintained each year, and address any necessary repairs immediately.

Radiators are a popular home heating choice in older homes, but they are becoming less common in new-construction homes. According to a 2022 report by Elements Visual Capitalist, only around 1.3% of new single-family homes have radiators and similar heating systems, such as baseboard heating.

While they may not be as popular as they once were, radiators today come with more energy-efficient features that can make them practical for modern homeowners.
