Customers say: True professional

"The Landscaping Guys did a fantastic job. They came right on time and worked hard through the whole day to weed and clean up my yard, trim hedges/shrubbery and fix some broken stones in my hardscaping wall. They also offered advice for additional plantings and landscaping. I will definitely hire them again and highly recommend their services."

"Bobby and his crew did a great job. We had heard so many horror stories about pool contractors but they made it a breeze. They were upfront about everything and maintained their word the entire durationa and even after project completion. Any mistakes or concerns were fixed. They didn't have the lowest quote but they did have the best customer satisfaction when I called their references and that was our deciding factor. I will gladly pay a little more to get the job done right and that is what you get from Band J Pools. I will also say that not only did they put my pool in for me, they have always been there for me in support of our pool journey with any question I have had since! Hard to find a business in this day and age that stands behind their work and their word like Band J Pools. If we ever had a need for another pool installation you can bet I would call these guys!

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

A scattering of leaves won’t pose a problem through the winter, but a thicker layer of leaves may not decompose before the first frost and can instead weigh down your grass and harbor mold or fungi. A thick layer of leaves also cuts off light and air that grass needs to grow. That’s why we suggest removing thick leaf layers within several days if possible. If your lawn goes dormant over the winter and snow has already caught up with you, then remove the leaves in early spring before your grass-growing season starts so your lawn can thrive.

If shade is a priority for you, then panting elm trees is a fine choice. A full mature elm tree has enough aesthetic appeal for some folks that it could add value to your home.

That said, never plant elm trees too close to your home, sewer line, or sidewalks, as their roots can damage these, which can lead to costly repairs.

The cost to plant a small tree or sapling is between $100 and $300 on average, if you hire a professional. Big trees will cost more and usually require the work of a specialist, so expect to pay over $1,000 for those.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.

Plant privet hedges at least 1 foot apart in a trench about 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. It’s important to space privet hedges relatively far apart due to how quickly they grow to significant sizes and heights. You don’t want to crowd privet plants, or they could overcrowd each other, causing unwanted damage.
