"My actual job was for replacement of a double gate for my wood fence and installation of a concrete walkway from an outbuilding to my patio (which also required relocating sprinkler heads and some unforeseen electrical repair). Matt was a true professional in every sense of the word; communication was awesome from start to finish and his crew was top notch. The quality of work is excellent and I will call on them again for future projects."

Small jobs welcome

"Josh did a simple skim coat on my cieling. It was a 2 day job for application and drying then sanding the next day. Great guy that shows up on time and was within my budget. He has great communication and will work with you when work can be done. What to expect and a fair price. It was super dusty so be ready for that. He did a great job and couldnt ask for better service. Well worth it."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

In Athens, ongoing fence maintenance depends on your chosen material. Wood fences should be inspected annually for rot and termites, with staining or sealing recommended to protect against humidity. Vinyl fences need periodic cleaning to remove dirt and mildew. Aluminum fences should be checked for scratches and recoated if needed, while chain link fences benefit from rust treatment. Regular upkeep helps your fence comply with city appearance standards and extends its lifespan.

Helpful?

In Athens, wood, vinyl, aluminum, and chain link are popular fencing materials. Wood is favored for its classic look but requires regular sealing due to Athens' humid climate. Vinyl is low-maintenance and resists weathering, while aluminum offers decorative appeal and durability. Chain link is cost-effective for large yards. Local suppliers familiar with Athens' weather can recommend materials that withstand seasonal rain and temperature changes.

Helpful?

In Athens, most fencing projects require a zoning permit from the Athens Building Department, especially if your fence will exceed six feet or be installed in a front yard. You must submit a site plan showing property lines and fence details. After installation, a city inspector from the Code Enforcement Office will verify compliance with local fence height and setback regulations to ensure your project meets all city codes.

Helpful?

In Athens, common fencing mistakes include failing to verify property lines, neglecting to obtain a permit from the Athens Building Department, and installing posts too shallow for local soil conditions. Using materials unsuited to Athens' climate or ignoring local fence height rules can lead to costly repairs or code violations. To avoid these issues, follow city guidelines and consult experienced professionals for your fencing project.

Helpful?

Before starting a fencing project in Athens, confirm your property boundaries with a licensed surveyor to avoid disputes. Contact the Athens Building Department to secure required permits and review fence placement rules. Call Alabama 811 to mark underground utilities before digging. Planning ahead, sourcing materials early, and scheduling inspections with local authorities will help prevent delays and ensure your fence meets all local requirements.
