For the garden work, it was all manual labor. The guys that performed the work were tireless, even in the heat of early August. They were prompt, worked hard all day and did not work past normal quitting time, so they were done when we arrived home from work. The tools were picked up each night and the area left clean and tidy. These are some of the hardest workers I have seen in a long time.
For the flag pole patio, Mike had fabulous ideas for how accomplish our goal of having the patio slope up to meet the edge of the driveway without interfering with any snow removal equipment and to back fill our sloping lawn to meet the top of the retaining wall giving our lawn a new, very much improved look. Mike also had the idea to edge the retaining wall with a 3 ft. planter strip to provide a buffer between the grass and the wall which we topped with redwood bark mulch. As for the patio itself, we used hexagon paving bricks. The first idea was to use larger paving bricks to create the slope from the patio to tie into the driveway, but after Mike saw the appearance of the large pavers, he changed his mind, had the large pavers removed and the smaller hexagon pavers cut to create the slope necessary for a smooth transition to the driveway. The Sunshine mason is by far one of the best I have ever seen. The pavers were cut with compound angles and laid with such precision, it is impossible to see the interface from the patio to the sloping pavers unless you are looking for it. Very impressive. In addition to working to complete our project, we needed to have a different contractor come in during different stages of the landscaping work to set the base for the flag pole. Everything went very smoothly with two contractors working in the same 200 sqft area. Again, as with the garden workers, the tools were picked up every night and the area left in a very tidy fashion.
I hope that Sunshine Garden and Landscaping Services is around for a long time. They are a family run business with integrity, knowledge and skilled, hard workers. Everything was completed in a timely manner and to our complete satisfaction at a fair price.

They only have a \"Handyman\" license which allows work up to $10K in Alaska. Additionally, the company \"Handyman\" is only a salesman, Jason Wood. The company is a shell company for Prudential Real Estate agent, Dennis Wood (Jason's father). When AMD bid on the job, I negotiated buying all the supplies myself per their list for the project (so that I could get mileage). I was over charged $1800- and had already paid them. AMD refused to refund it. Additionally, they charged for four sonic tubes to hold up the deck but only installed three sonic tubes. I photographed their work daily at the end of their shifts to document their work and materials actually used. AMD refused to remit the over payment and I took them to Small Claims Court. We settled in Court and they paid me back $1200.00. I also filed a report with the BBB and they opened an alert on this company. I contacted the State of Alaska and began researching AMD's business license. The State of Alaska Department of Commerce, Division of Occupational Licensing Examiner found that, ?Jason R. Wood dba Arctic Mt. Development is not a registered contractor.? Print outs from the State of Alaska, Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing website shows that AMD is a ?business corporation,? and that Dennis L. Wood, is listed as a ?licensed Associate Broker,? for Prudential Vista Real Estate located at 4241 B. Street.? Further the licensing showed, Jason R. Wood, is listed as a ?licensed salesperson,? NOT a contractor! AMD is not licensed as a landscaper or contractor. I fail to see how having an Associate Real Estate Broker?s license could qualify AMD or any employee there of to perform construction services. Additionally, my other two neighbors had work performed by AMD during the same summer. The project they did for one neighbor was over $21K which exceeded the \"$10K Handyman\" license limit and was illegal! AMD excavated the driveway and replaced it. My other neighbor had pavers put in and was also over charged by $1000-."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ak/anchorage/arctic-mountain-development-inc-reviews-6225702.htm"},"position":3}]}

FAQs for pavers and hardscaping service projects in Soldotna, AK
It might seem counterintuitive, but the best time to install a paver patio is during late fall to winter. The cold and wet weather of those seasons can help your patio installer perfect the foundation for your patio. Plus, you'll likely be able to find better sales and deals during the colder months when patio installation business is typically slower. Consult a local patio paver professional to determine the best time to install based on your area’s climate.
A paver patio can last anywhere from 20 to 100 years, depending on the type of pavers and how well you maintain them.
Travertine pavers are usually the most durable, lasting 100 years or more, with regular maintenance. Concrete brick pavers have a variety of shapes and colors available and typically last 25 to 50 years. Traditional brick pavers have a more classic look, lasting around 20 years with proper maintenance.
It's also necessary to install paver edging when installing a paver patio. This additional step helps prevent the paver borders from shifting outward, which happens due to frequent use and soil expansion over time. By being diligent and placing the paver edging during the patio installation, you can help minimize upkeep and repair costs. Plus, this feature can help maintain your pavers to keep them in place permanently.
The cost of a paver patio is $3,800 for a 280-square-foot patio on average. Depending on the patio size, paver material, and design complexity, this cost can range from $2,400 to $7,000 or more.
The size of your patio is a significant factor in the project’s overall cost. If you're building a smaller patio of only 60 square feet, your costs will be closer to $480 to $1,500. If you want a more luxurious 900-square-foot patio, you'll spend closer to $7,200 to $22,500.
While installing a paver patio yourself is possible, we don’t recommend it. First, this project is very time-consuming, averaging around 40 to 50 hours. Beyond the sheer amount of labor required, you need to have knowledge of yard grading and drainage so that rainwater doesn't puddle on your new patio.
Without sufficient expertise, you could encounter several problems, including improper placement and leveling of sand or improperly compacted soil, leading to an uneven surface. For these reasons, hiring a professional paver patio installer is advisable to build the patio of your dreams.
