"Ours is an older home (late 50s/early 60s) and like the rest of Anchorage during this weekend's deep freeze, we experienced a burst pipe. I called Anchorage Plumbing and Heating at 0800 and they had someone (Curtis) at our house by noon - a welcome surprise given the large number of city-wide call-outs. Because of the house's age, there are many mysteries and deviations in its construction and plumbing and so tracking down the leak was not easy. For all the time and hassle and head-scratching moments, Curtis was never anything but patient, quick, and methodical in his approach while remaining mindful of keeping costs to a minimum. Ultimately, the offending pipe was found and expertly repaired. I can not speak enough to Curtis' professionalism and personal character. His quick response time was partly due to the fact that although he had been on vacation, he had called his company offering to come back in to help with the increased workload. He told me he did so because his company is a team that works well together and watches out for one another. For this and every other reason, I would not hesitate to recommend both Curtis and Anchorage Plumbing and Heating. They have in me a customer for life."

"My experience with Rock Excavating was great! I had met with two Contractors previously for an estimate and they never even called me back. I met with Rock Landscaping and he assured me He could help me with my earthquake damaged hill that my house sits on as well as my driveway that was allowing water from the street to pool up against my foundation. The owner gave me updates on the progress of the job and didn't waste a minute getting in and saving my home from falling off the side of a forty foot hill! Re-sloped my driveway too, so now my foundation is not taking on a ton of water. The owner sensed the urgency in my Contractor needs and jumped right into action. I highly recommend Rock Landscaping!"

"He came right over on a Sunday and helped drain the crawl space then set up schedule to dry out, replace wet insulation and fix broken pipes. Ordered and later installed new water heater. It was a process but Matt and his associates were super helpful, professional and nice."

"Rick was easy to work with and suggested excellent quality windows. With the pandemic problem, they stayed in touch trying to get the windows from the manufacturer. The installation was quick and easy and done exceptionally well. I am very pleased with the product, the labor and the cost. I have already suggested them to others who has used them for their windows also!"

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

An active cleaning agent and a drain snake is the best way to clean a main sewer line. You can purchase a regular or enzyme drain cleaner or make a DIY drain cleaner with baking soda. Use your chosen solution at least once a month or as needed to keep your sewer line clear.

Several signs can tip you off to a clogged dishwasher drain. At first, you may notice that it’s taking longer than usual for the dishwasher to drain, or you may hear gurgling sounds during the draining part of the cycle. You might also notice water backing up into your sink or excess food at the bottom of the dishwasher after a load. The most obvious sign, though, is seeing standing water at the bottom of your dishwasher after the cycle has finished.

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.

Yes, hiring a drain cleaner is worth it, especially when compared to the cost of not being able to use a sink, shower, toilet, or bathtub and the potential damage that flooding can cause in your home. You might try a temporary drain cleaning liquid or snaking it yourself, but if the clog is out of reach or these methods do not work, then hiring a professional drain cleaner is the way to go.

Your sewer line can get grimy quickly. To prevent sludge buildup in your sewer line, pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda down each drain in your home once a month. After about 30 minutes, flush the drain with hot water.

Some plumbers recommend 3/4 cup of bleach instead to clean any germs and bacteria that may build up in your sewer line. But this won’t break down any active clogs, and it cannot be combined with vinegar, as the mixture will create a toxic, hazardous gas.
