"J&E responded to my request in a timely manner - and were able to meet my timeline. They were hard workers and completed the job on schedule. I was impressed with the prep work they did to protect my carpet, cabinets, etc. I would have them paint my interior again in the future if needed."

"We are remodeling an older house and needed someone to re-trim our 2500 square foot home. Reusing some of the old trim and supplementing it with new, Josh was able to make our windows really shine. He showed up to the job site on time and did a fantastic job. He also stepped in and help out wherever there was a need. Prepping the facia board for new wire to be run by cutting a 6 inch swatch all around the house. Josh has a great positive attitude and has been a pleasure to work with.

"They have contacted me for a quote but I have not yet heard back from them. I am leaning toward contacting a friend to assist me in building it myself as I am concerned that I will not be getting the custom project that I need. If they surprize me and are able to come back with a quote for the project we need, I will most likely hire them for the job."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Ipe wood can last up to 75 years with minimal maintenance because its own oils help to preserve it. However, to get the most out of your Ipe wood deck, you should perform some routine maintenance, including regular cleaning, sweeping of leaves and debris, and rinsing spills with a hose. It’s also important to repair any deep scratches as soon as you spot them and reseal the deck annually to protect against scratches and scuffs.

Apply a wood stain or sealant to properly maintain a wood deck railing and keep it looking new. Sealants protect wood from moisture and weathering. Regularly inspect the railing for loose screws, damaged balusters, and other signs of wear to make timely repairs. Routinely clean the railing using mild soap, water, and a soft bristle brush.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

You should seal your deck every one to two years, but you’ll also need to clean and repair your wood deck throughout the seasons. You may want to hire a local house cleaning service to sweep and clean the deck thoroughly. These cleaning services cost around $50 per hour.

Inspect your deck at least once a year, and if you notice any damage or rot, expect to spend about $10 to $50 for simple DIY fixes or about $2,000 for professional repairs on more extensive damage.
