"Absolute 10 out of 10 service and quality! Drazenko did an amazing job repainting the interior walls of our 2500+ sq. ft condo. Communications were outstanding throughout, beginning with first contact made within 24 hrs. of posting my project on Angi. Drazenko was out the next day to review the project and provided a quotation when he promised. He kept us up to date every step of the way, from letting us know if he might be slightly delayed to what he would work on each day and planned completion date. The drywall crack repairs are exceptional as is the painting. We very highly recommend AK Home Modifications for outstanding quality work and amazing communications."

"They did a conscientious job.  We have many decks and deck railings. We had a new roof put on last year and were concerned about paint getting dripped or sprayed onto our new shingles or our outdoor decking's indoor/outdoor carpeting.  They did a very neat job.  We are very pleased with the results.  The onsite supervisor was a very hard working person that was very amenable to any requests we had.  We would hire them again.

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Opt for an interior wood stain that is rated for your type of wood. Consider your personal style preferences as well as the overall use of the room when choosing a color. Remember, the color you see at the store may look different on your actual floors once applied. This is why if you have the chance, it’s helpful to test a few options on a scrap piece of wood in the room first. Once you narrow it down, you can test a small patch on an inconspicuous area in the room to see it on the actual floors.

It’s a good idea to sand your porch before painting. This will remove loose or chipped paint and debris, and give you a cleaner surface so that your new paint goes on smoothly. But if the existing surface is in good condition, it’s not necessary to sand your porch before you paint.

You can refresh a painted deck by either giving it a thorough cleaning or refinishing the deck altogether. Chipped or faded paint, as well as extensive damage, often calls for a new finish. To do this, remove the original coat of paint with a sander and add either a new coat of paint or a stain to protect the wood below.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.
