"B & B did a FAST, quality, reasonably priced job on my roof! I thought it would take a couple of weeks before they could start the job, but they were able to start 2 days after doing an estimate. They completed the job in 3 days in extreme heat and made sure I was satisfied before they left. I appreciated that they made sure the perimeter was free of loose nails also. If I could give them 6 stars I would!"

"Called Harris Roofing after the wind storm and was blown away with how quick they responded. Within 24 hours I had a repair done, a quote for a new roof and a contract sent to me. Fast forward 2 weeks later and he tore off and replaced my roof and only took about 1.5 days. Always kept me updated along the way and job site was always clean. Price was reasonable and didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of. Would recommend this roofing company to anyone for any roofing needs!"

"The representative that approached me was completely professional. And he was very informable. He was a young guy, but he reminded me of the old time workers. The word instead, bond In the guy set down the roof was completely professional. They worked hard and they'd done a great-great job. I appreciate what they did"

Small jobs welcome

"I would recommend Curiosity Builder to anyone looking for roofing repairs and inspections. We have been having Ice dams during the winter for a few years so we had them come out this summer to evaluate our roof and see what could be done versus having a whole new roof installed. Jeremy and Bruce were great, they did an evaluation of the house roof and found that we had heat leaks that were leading to the ice-dams. They recommended a fix and did not see the need of a new roof replacement or shingling (we had our roof re-shingled not too many years ago). They also did an inspection of the gas fireplace which we had changed out from wood and shared with me where that heat loss was occurring and subsequently repaired that. The team that they had were very mindful of the interior of our house (most of the work occurred inside) and made sure everything was protected. They were very courteous and professional. Highly recommend."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

You shouldn’t put a new roof underlayment over an old one for a few reasons. Old felt must be removed in order to assess the condition of your roof decking, such as rotting wood or other structural issues. Also, if your roofer doesn't install a fresh layer of felt as is required by shingle manufacturers, your warranty may be voided. Finally, old underlayment removal is often included in the cost of roof repair or replacement, so there's no real benefit to leaving it on before installing a new layer.

Generally, the term “rolled roofing” refers to MSR (mineral surface roll) roofing. This type of roofing is similar to asphalt shingles but comes in a roll that’s unraveled and installed over your roof deck. There are many types of rolled roofing, including TPO, EPDM, and modified bitumen roofing (aka torch down roofing).

Asphalt shingles have varying thicknesses across the length, so failing to stagger shingles from one row to the next will leave you with bulges and bumps if the thicker sections stack on top of each other. Not only is this unappealing, but it increases the risk of water intrusion. Stagger each new row by 6 inches to avoid this issue.

Heated roofs are a preventative measure and don’t have an outsized effect on your home’s value, so there is no definitive answer to this question. If you diligently monitor your roof in colder months, ensuring there is never snow or ice buildup then no, maybe they aren’t worth it. However, who really watches their roof every day or goes out in freezing weather to rake the roof? For most people worried about roof damage in the winter, heated roofs are a good investment.

No, you should not close or cover your gable vents in the winter. While it might seem logical to block cold air, heating your home creates hot air that rises and can cause condensation in the attic. If the vents are covered, this moisture becomes trapped, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. Keeping the gable vents open ensures proper ventilation, which helps dry out the attic, maintain even temperatures, and prevent moisture-related damage.
