Damon and Rachel did an outstanding job with our initial floor plan and elevation drawings. After a 2 hour in person consultation, his first pass at our floor plan was about 95% of what we wanted, and with a few quick back and forth it was done. This while Damon is in TN and I'm in TX. Timing was as promised each step of the way, even though it was about 6 weeks between our initial consultation and the first set of floor plans (as planned). He brings 30 years of experience to the job, and it shows. His initial projections on total sq ft was very accurate

Baladez Construction Inc. did an amazing job restoring our home beyond expectations. We experienced a lot of damage from the Watson Grinding Explosion (Beltway 8 & Clay Spring Branch Area) back in January of 2020. We live within the blast radius and our structure was compromised as well as significant damage to the stucco, garage, exterior and interior of our home. Baladez Construction even helped negotiate with the adjusters and meet them on sight to point out the damage. They did an outstanding job at working with the insurance. It was a process but they were able to fight for us and get our provider to cover the full amount of the damage covered. The restoration came out wonderful! We got all new stucco on the outside as well as fresh sheetrock and interior on the inside (new flooring, windows, doors, paint, baseboard, crown, shower, etc). The home had to be completely gutted and redone due to the damage. We also put an addition onto the back of our home while they were here. Couldn’t be more pleased with the way everything came out and the manner in which they handled themselves. I was not looking forward to the process of rebuilding after the explosion, but Daniel Sr. made me feel at ease with his knowledge and ability to come up with a solution for any issue we had. I would definitely use them again and I even recommended them to some neighbors for their damage. Happy we chose to use them for our project and now we have the best looking house on the block

We hired Baladez Construction to complete a major remodeling project on a house which we recently bought. The project included: significant wall repair from foundation work; the extension and customization of a laundry room; the remodeling of a kitchen; adding a partial wall between two rooms; installation of new doors; and complete painting. There were several other items including electrical and plumbing jobs that were also part of our project. We cannot say enough positive things about Baladez Construction. We were pleased at every step of the process. Daniel was very easy to communicate with throughout the process. He listened and made very good suggestions at each step of a large, complicated job. Even when we ran into difficulties, he and his team came up with excellent solutions. Daniel's core team of painters and construction workers are experienced and careful, even perfectionistic in their work. They do not take short cuts or rush through the job. The walls and construction work were just outstanding! The cabinet, electrical, and plumbing sub-contractors are also very good. . We were especially impressed by the talented work of the cabinet makers. We had new door/drawer fronts throughout, some cabinets reconfigured, and some new custom cabinets built. In each case the results were just great! We were also pleased with the new doors which were installed. We were so pleased with the work done on this house that we hired Baladez to update and paint a house that we are selling. Once again, we were not disappointed...BCI did an excellent job with the second house as well. We will hire BCI any time we need home repair or remodeling done in the future. thank you again, Daniel, for a job well done

Black & White Construction did an excellent job on our remodel! Greg was great to work with; He listened to our ideas and made great suggestions of his own based on his experience and what we were looking for. The crew who worked on the remodel were wonderful and very, very skilled at many things including tile, carpentry, and electrical work. The project was finished on time. Overall we were very satisfied with the quality and service provided and will hire for future projects

Everyone on the Black and White team is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and dedicated to quality results. Greg took the time to help us pick the right options for our needs, wants, and budget, working around the unique quirks of our 40-year-old home. His team was very courteous, quiet, and clean. Greg checked in on progress frequently and worked alongside the team often, which impressed me. After dealing with other contractors, Black and White is truly a breath of fresh air: honest, responsive, and dedicated to ensuring we were happy with the results

  • Architectural Fabricators

In August 2020, we completed a complicated replacement backyard 3-story deck project with the expert help of Architectural Fabricators. As background, we live in a 100-year old house in Montrose. The previous owner, built out the attic into a 3rd floor efficiency apartment, and constructed a 3-story deck that served as outdoor entry, fire escape, and seating area. It was done in treated pine and included a 1st story deck (12x28’), wrap-around 3-story staircase, and upper deck (10x12’). Unfortunately, after 25+ years, the wood deteriorated and the staircase became unsafe and unusable. We needed to replace the entire structure. After engineering plans were drawn and a city construction permit was secured, we started the project. The project required demolition of the existing structure, then construction of the new structure with drilled cement piers to support the four 8x8”x21’ metal columns for the 3rd story deck platform, metal I-beams for decking substructure, a 20’ metal spiral staircase, metal safety railings around all decks, and then wood decking and stair components. A consultant who we had worked with previously drew the engineering plans and secured the City of Houston permit. He was great. So, we started the project by contracting with a small deck-building company that had been recommended. With that company, we completed demolition of the old structure and got the piers drilled, pored, inspected and approved. However, our contracted deck building company could not finish the job. It did not have the capabilities to complete the remaining metal fabrication, construction and welding aspects. So, mid-project, we had to reset and find another company. We asked around, and were told to contact Architectural Fabricators because they had capabilities for completing the metal fabrication, installation, and wood-decking components. This recommendation turned out to be blessing. I contacted them through their website in January 2020 prior to the COVID-19 lockdown, and received a quick call back from David, the sales manager. We set up an in-home meeting, and he came over to review the project. He met with us for almost 2 hours while I explained the project, showed him the plans, status of the city permit, and work completed to date. He considered the project, said their company had the skills and capabilities to complete it, and that he would get back to me with a bid. Interestingly, I contacted 4 other companies for bids to help us out, and Architectural Fabricators was the only company that responded. David returned a bid that was complete and totally acceptable. In fact, he and company owner, Jason had brainstormed and suggested some very cool alterations to the plans. We immediately signed the contract and put a work schedule in play. Construction resumed in March 2020 with Architectural Fabricators, just as the COVID pandemic began to rage. However, this did not stop the work. We all practiced excellent pandemic safety precautions with masks and distance. This is a compliment to all the guys for their work ethic and safety manners. I want to give a shout out to all the workers. First acknowledgment is to crew foreman Luis and his metal workers Carlos, Ruben, Gustavo, and Julio who completed the installation of the large support columns and I-beams. They were competent, skillful, and careful with the positioning, leveling, and welding. Everything passed inspection without comment. Next is to Alejandro and his crew who built and installed the spiral staircase. Marco, one of his guys, expertly welded the staircase in placed and then installed the railings. They are all experienced welders and builders. And last but not least, kudos goes to Cesar and his crew Ramon and Ruben who installed the wood decking and metal planter box. Cesar is a master craftsman with wood. We chose IPE wood for its lasting qualities and beauty, and the guys did a great job of laying the decks. As an example of the care and pride they put into the deck, Cesar carefully custom cut rounded corners in the deck boards to fit the rounded corners of the large support columns. Everything is precise, flush, and square. The project was completed in August 2020. And it is beautiful. All city inspections of construction elements were approved and the final Certificate of Compliance was received. We could not have completed this replacement deck structure without Architectural Fabricators. Again, Jason and David were patient and accommodating during the pandemic and execution of the project. They were actively involved, cared about the project quality, practiced work site and pandemic safety measures, and didn’t ignore us. David called each week to ask how things were going and if there were any issues. He was a pleasure to work with, as was Jason. It’s nice when an owner is engaged with the work and progress. Finally, the project could not have turned out as well as it did without the dedication and masterful efforts of the crew. They were friendly, skillful, and conscientious. They showed up when scheduled. They cleaned up after each day’s work. These are the guys everybody wants to have work on their home projects. From our perspective, the investment we made in this home project with Architectural Fabricators was well worth it. Not only is this structure a showpiece, it has been built to last. We plan to enjoy the outdoors in our Montrose backyard on these lower and upper decks with family and friends for many years to come. Many thanks, Jim and Carrie Markell

  • Michael Gaertner Architects

Approximately 7/30/2021, I entered into an agreement with Michael Gaertner Architect, I sent via Venmo $2500.00 and the next day $2000.00 of a requested $5000.00. Total contract amount was unknown due to it being a percentage of the total cost. I gave him a floor plan and several pictures of which to give design Ideas. He said he would have some preliminary drawings within a week or so. On August 2nd, I received an email of my floorplan with furniture laid out and some grid lines. Then nothing, On August 11 I text Michael to see how thing were progressing. No reply. I emailed on Aug 13th, still no response. I was unable to get any communication until I emailed him on September 1st. My email went as follows." I wanted to touch base, seems very drawn out right now. I'm trying to move forward but haven't received any communication from you in quite awhile. I understand that you may have other obligations happening at the moment. For that reason I would like to request a refund in the amount of $4000.00 paid, so I can proceed to move the process forward. I appreciate the time speaking with you and hope that all is well. Thank you " I was only requesting $4000.00 because I figured $500.00 was well worth our first consultation. He did reply saying " My folks have been moving along with the drawings even though I’ve been on hiatus. I’d like to get together to review progress, if you are amenable, I’m available Friday through next week at your convenience. Let me know what your think. The more I thought about it I just was not satisfied with the Lack of communication. Time was of the essence and he knew that going in. He stated that if at anytime I didn't feel like they were meeting my expectations he would refund the deposit. after many calls emails and text asking for full refund of $4500.00 since September January 2022 he finally replied saying he would send me a refund. Today 4/13- no response no refund. Terrible communication. By the way he was referred by Angi's Lis

Johnny and his teams did a great job with collaborating with owners from the quote, to design phase and all the way through construction, ensuring safety and quality along the way, even during a pandemic. The project included building a vaulted ceiling/roof and tile work on top of an existing concrete slab. The main features of the patio include a gas fireplace, stone accent wall and sitting bench, ceiling fan, water connection for outdoor appliances, and additional power outlets. Johnny remained a high level of customer service through the 2.5 month period from initial contact through completed project. On rare occasion, homeowners needed to bring some matters up with Johnny regarding subcontractors. In each case he resolved the issues within 24 hours. (The 4-month delay in writing this review was to ensure no quality issues arose; none have, which speaks to the high quality of craftsmanship.

Greg at B&W is simply a pleasure to work with. My wife and i immediately clicked with Greg. He helped us through every phase of our project, which was an extensive kitchen remodel including some structural work, a new laundry room, a new mud room and more. His crew was great, did excellent work and we enjoyed getting to know them over the course of the 3-month project. We are already talking with Greg about our next project! Highly recommended
