Mark W Todd Architects Inc

We hired Mark Todd Architects to design a custom home for us, starting with a preliminary sketch we did with an architect friend of mine from Virginia.  We provided a budget of $550,000-$650,000 for the new home.  While initial meetings with Mr. Todd went well, when the project was turned over to a staff member problems arose.  there was a conflict of personality between the customers (us) and the project architect.  We were not treated well.  When it came time for the final drawings to be released to prospective bidding builders, several of them found errors in the design and window/door schedule.  Turns out the youg project architect left the company and did not finish final quality checks and the assistant architect manager did not do final QC before release causing the documents to be pulled back and re-done and re-issued.  Then the contractors bid on the house and 4 of 5 builders bid over $900,000, well over budget, which was a shock to us and the architect.  So we had to start over. Mark Todd Architects was aware of the budget we set but did not consider this as we progressed with the design of the house.  We ended up going to a builder and modifying an existing plan rather than a custom house.  We wasted one year of our time and approximately $15,000 in architect fees with Mark Todd Architects.  I think he should have done better at managing the design to the budget.
