Custom Stonescaping LLC
Delighted to write about such a good crew, they deserve the best. I have interviewed several Hardscape companies being one to work with top individuals. The proposal saved us time and money and was explained to us in very intelligent steps from start to finish. Detail oriented, all of my concerns were addressed and taken care of. I previewed other projects on site, visited their showroom, picked the stones I wanted. We were given the information to hire real professionals. The job started. On time. Finished on time. And it looks exactly as expected. And all questions were pleasantly answered along the project, all crew speaks English. Our community operates with strict guidelines and they were very careful to protect all working areas. Even neighbors commented. The owners, very present. A detail but they show up with clean trucks, clean uniform tops, perfect fit for an upscale community. Here is the best part. We had a few hick-ups during the project, they pointed out the problems to us and we were able to fix them all. We own a new property and they were all pre-construction phase issues handled by the builder. Custom Stonescaping adjusted well to this extra phase of the project and offered excellent and generous follow-up. Overall, a company who cares. And wants your satisfaction. A++ no less.

WENTWORTH NURSERY CO
I WAS HAPPY WITH WENTWORTH. I DO THINK IT WAS A LITTLE PRICEY, BUT I WAS ANXIOUS FOR IT TO JUST BE DONE. THE GENTLEMAN WERE PROFESSIONAL AND DID A GOOD JOB.

Ace Deck & Fence
We used Ace Deck & Fence initially to replace an existing chain link fence with a 6ft. wood privacy fence in our backyard. That project went very well so we decided to hire them again to put a stone veneer on our cinder block retaining wall. The crew was very punctual and began work right away. They pointed out an issue with the retaining wall leaning out and recommended rebuilding a new wall. I spoke with Ali (one of the owners) and he worked with us on a fair price for replacing the wall. The new wall, stone veneer, and capstone turned out better than anticipated. We now have a nice capstone on our retaining wall that we can use as seating when guest come over. The hideous cinder block retaining wall is now a nice decorative feature that ties together our stone patio and walkway.

The Hardscape Store
The job required an entire week to complete a careful installation that has a 5-year warranty. The crew did an excellent job removing the old walls, setting the foundation, excavating for the necessary gravel, drainage pipe, retaining grid and compacted fill, building the wall which involved quite a bit of cutting and fitting, and smoothing the area for grass seed. They used blue tarps to pile the excavated dirt on, so that after completion both the driveway and grass area were clean. The result is a great improvement over the deteriorating brick walls.

English Country Gardens
I received a prompt response to my inquiry and was able to set up an appointment for evaluating the job and providing an estimate the next weekend. The designer arrived on time for the appointment, evaluated the site, provided a sketch of the work, description of materials, notional schedule, a price for the wall, and a price for the walk. The price was competitive with other estimates. Communication was satisfactory and the company's qualifications were exemplary, however the detail provided in the proposal was not to my expectations.

American Exteriors & Masonry
We have a fairly steep hill in our small back yard and decided to have a retaining wall built to level out the top of the yard. We also wanted to have our sidewalk leading into the house bricked over for better aesthetics. We had several quotes from various masonry contractors. Carmen came out and gave us a reasonable quote for the retaining wall and sidewalk which was in the ballpark that we were looking to pay. There was a slight delay due to getting a permit but after starting, the wall was built in less than a week. The end result is a very nice looking wall that we are very pleased with. It matches the brick from our house and looks great. The sidewalk also looks very nice and was completed in 2 days. Overall, very happy with the results from Carmen's team.

First Impression Hardscapes
Timing went well. Rain delayed the start of the project a couple of times, but still finished on time. The team showed up on time daily and worked like crazy all day long. Finished product looks great. My yard was pretty torn up from the extensive use of small heavy equipment and for the most part it looks good now. Just a few minor touches could have made this a perfect experience. All in all I would use them again though.

Premium Lawn & Landscape
This was a horrible experience. Although the project manager was advertised as experienced it ended up that he had little to know experience building retaining walls. The first time the walls were built they were leaning and not straight. They had to tear down and rebuild half the project. They purchased the wrong type of block to make the retaining walls and modified them to work however on areas were you could see both sides of the block walls the back sides look bad. All though everything seemed clear during 2 different walk around of the property and discussions of the project once it started it was clear the project manager was either forgetful or not paying attention. The first time the job was said to be completed they didn't actually build the walls tall enough and had to come back out to finish yet again. They attempted to nickel and dime a few items which they had previously agreed to. They eventually dropped those charges partly due to the hassle of the entire project. I would never use them again or recommend them. 1 year later some of the blocks at the bottom of the wall were apparently not well situated and are falling out of place even though they were supposedly all glued/cemented together.

Triton Design Group,Inc
Triton came and provided an estimate as planned. Their costs were significantly higher than the other 3 providers i interviewed. and the product being offered was not of the same caliber. I did not utilize Triton for this job.

HEMAX Construction Services & Landscaping LLC
I spoke to 3 different contractors about a plan to install a paver patio behind my house. Over the next few weeks, I began to have a picture of what I wanted, and I decided that Hemax Landscaping was the best choice to do the work. Mr. Henry Cruz is excellent to work with. He is interested in quality workmanship, and he worked with me on details of the design process. I asked as many questions as I could think of, and he made adjustments to the plan in response to my requests. Mr. Cruz?s estimate was very organized, each part clearly itemized and priced. I appreciated that the proposal outlined all general conditions such as that the contractor would arrange for Miss Utility to inspect the site before digging. The Hemax office staff members are equally helpful and responsive. Mr. Cruz?s crew were very professional, worked very smoothly and quickly. I wasn?t home very much after the first day, but they followed the specifications I had asked, and it was fun to see the progress each day. I will definitely hire Hemax again if I should decide to do further plans. I do not consider them cheap, but I felt the price was very reasonable for excellent quality. 9/16/2013, we had a signed contract, which I sent on to the Home Owner's Association for approval. 10/28/2013, I received approval from the HOA, and learned that the HOA had agreed to replace my neighbor's fence on my side in order that my contractor could rebuild the supporting wall. 11/11/2013, Hemax crew (about 5 guys) arrived to begin digging. HOA contractor came to remove the fence but did not want to remove the fence posts although they were clearly rotting at the base. Since the HOA contractor was not prepared to do this work, Mr. Cruz had new fence posts brought in, and arranged for his own crew to replace the fence posts that day so the work could continue without delay. He worked with the HOA to get them to agree to cover the cost of the fence posts as well as the rest of the fence. I was very relieved about this, and so was my neighbor. 11/12/2013, At the start of the second day, the Hemax crew had finished putting up the 3 new fence posts, and most of the cinder block wall was complete. The property level was graded and the drain pipe was buried. 11/13/2013, At the start of the third day, the cinder block wall was complete, the brick veneer under the sliding glass door was installed, and they had started prepping and leveling the surface for the concrete pavers. 11/14/2013, At the start of the fourth day, the pavers had been installed, the garden bed was installed, and river rocks had been installed around the HVAC unit and in the garden bed. I requested that the rocks be removed from the garden bed and only be kept around the HVAC. 11/15/2013, At the start of the fifth day, the rocks had been removed from the garden bed and replaced with mulch as I had asked. Grass sod had been placed at the far end of the patio where the ground had been disturbed to bury the drain pipe and level the property. Later in the morning, I met with Mr. Cruz to inspect the finished project.

Mottern Masonry Design
We are very pleased with their work and can recommend the firm highly. The Mottern manager was excellent at communications. He kept us informed about their schedule for starting, stopped by in the evening to check project status and told us when to expect completion. The final cost was as we agreed. The Mottern Masonry team of workers was professional and very skilled. They were flexible when I realized the wall needed to be stepped up and down to allow for the line of the hill. In hindsight, I should have asked for more guidance on placement and asked more questions when the crew spray painted the locations early in the project. Overall, the wall, patio and walkway are lovely and work as beautiful additions to our home.

GROUND EFFECTS Landscape Construction Inc.
Josh and his crew did an excellent and professional job. It was a big job and Josh was very involved to be sure that the work was done well. The job site was kept clean and the work done as quickly as the weather would permit. Josh was flexible to ensure that the final product would be something we would like and incorporated changes to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. The work to be performed and all associated charges were fully explained. We felt his pricing was fair. We were kept informed during the job so that we knew what to expect when as the job progressed. It was a pleasure to work with Josh and everyone on his team and we would not hesitate to call on Ground Effects again, we recommend this company highly.

Orchard Excavation & Hardscaping LLC
The need for state permits was the first hurdle of this project. Korey was extremely professional and knowledgeable in dealing with MDE. It took two years of intense negotiations to obtain the required permit. MDE was making it so difficult that my husband and I were ready to give up but Korey persisted. After mounds of correspondence, numerous phone calls as well as soliciting the help of local politicians Korey was able to get the upper echelon of MDE to visit our site. Shortly after the on-site negotiation we were issued the required permit. Work finally began. First Korey excavated the waterfront in order to install the revetment (filter cloth with large stones on top). Then the project began to pour the concrete underwater boat ramp. Although tides and weather were not fully cooperating Korey was able to keep the other contractor on the job, doing and redoing the cofferdam needed to hold back the tide in order to pour concrete. After the concrete portion of the boat ramp was completed Korey laid the decorative pavers at the top of the ramp. We are more than delighted with our new waterfront. Korey's professionalism and dedication to doing the best job possible shows what an outstanding individual he is. A few years prior to the waterfront project Korey built a decorative block wall around the front of our house. Although not as difficult as the waterfront project he performed in a professional manner. We were so pleaseed with the work on the wall we naturally thought of Korey when planning the waterfront project. We would recommend Orchard Excavation and Hardscaping for any outdoor project.

Old Dominion Outdoor Services
The work was required to be completed by Jun 15th, for the party. This work was a continuation from last fall, when Mr Cooper removed an old wood pile, old metal shed and performed fall "putting the yard to sleep". Mr. Cooper started the work in April, however the weather delayed the finish, along with a shortage of available materials (white landscaping rock). As the work progressed, Troy pointed out other areas which needed to be corrected, he suggested solutions, and made the repairs/fixes as needed. Also he pointed out the squirrel issue under the soffits, which he corrected, the squirrels are now living somewhere else in the yard....

GROUND EFFECTS Landscape Construction Inc.
When planning the work, Ground Effects was very sure of what needed to be done and how to do it. To our delight, they executed everything with prompt professionalism. The extensive demolition was done quickly with no impact on household activities. They were experts in installing terraced walls using Anchor Highland 6and quot; block and installing the patio floor with CST Contempra driveway pavers. We were surprised what they could do with these materials. They turned steep slopes by our walk-out basement and by the garage into attractive terraced landscapes. The design and implementation upgraded the looks of the whole property. I recommend this very creative company to anyone that can use their services! They are terrific! My suggestions after all the conclusion of this project are as follows: DO: Use a small firm, like Ground Effects, with employees (craftsmen) that have worked at the firm for 10 years. DON'T: Use an inside-the-wall drain system (if you can avoid it), installed by a one-product, large firm, with a large advertising budget and lots of salesmen. These companies offer a one-size-fits-all approach to basement water issues. In our case it would not have solved the problems of the existing drainage system.
