"I recently hired Akers Electric to install two new breakers with outlets, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the entire experience. From start to finish, they were professional, courteous, and truly customer-driven. They took the time to explain the work, answered all my questions clearly, and made sure everything was done safely and efficiently. The installation itself was flawless, and the pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the work. They combine skill, integrity, and great communication. I truly felt included in decision making and valued as a homeowner. I highly recommend Akers Electric to anyone needing electrical work done. Outstanding service and results!"

"He installed the generator and serviced it for $5777.00 and everything was great. We then purchased a new home in January 2017 and he was able to move the generator and reinstall it at our new home for $1,016.00. It went perfectly. They were great people doing a great job because they knew what they were doing. The generator still works and we have had no problems. I would recommend him to everyone."

"Zach did a great job and completed everything he said he would. The price was comparable to others, with one added plus- no surprises! He charged exactly what he said he would. We are very happy with the results. Holes for butterfly anchors were visible and not filled, hence the 4.5, but this was in a garage and we easily puttied them after he finished. I would definitely recommend Empire Home Solutions and will call them again for future home upgrades."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.

A 1,500 square foot home will likely need a 15kW to 20kW generator. When deciding on whole-house generator size, add up the total wattage of the devices that you’d like to continue running during a power outage. That way, you can ensure you purchase a generator that can power your necessary appliances or medical equipment during an electrical emergency.

Many services include assembling the unit and securing it in the window. Confirm with your provider.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.
