IKEA Kitchens are a great value, and you'll keep more money in your pocket than you would with other brands. The quality, fit and finish are very good- I've visited kitchens I've installed 20 years ago and they're still in good condition (my clients know they can reach me anytime after their install should issues arise!). IKEA uses only Blum hardware for door hinges and drawer glides- the best of the best. "Erik was hired to install IKEA cabinets in our home for a full kitchen renovation. I felt confident in assembling the cabinets and finishing them (doors, hardware, drawers, toe kicks, etc) but we wanted a professional to make sure the cabinets were hung level, plumb, and square. From our first conversation it was obvious that Erik is an expert in all things IKEA. He provided some guidance and changes to our design to make some subtle improvements that would not have been obvious to us. He also immediately identified a critical flaw in our design that would have greatly impacted the final outcome but luckily we had enough time to get the proper replaced item. Communication with Erik was decent but be prepared for patience with emails and texts. Phone calls seemed to be most effective. Also be prepared to be patient for his schedule. Despite our efforts to plan ahead and get on “his radar” back in July, it still took several rounds of calls and discussions to finally get a week nailed down and the arrival day wasn’t determined until the week-of. You will need to be flexible. The installation was very fast - he had all of the work completed in one day. He is also very precise and detailed. He took time to show me how cabinets were anchored to the wall, that cabinets were level and prepped for the countertop template. He also cleaned up nicely, was courteous in our home and has a professional demeanor. The installation wasn’t without issue though. He accidentally stepped on a weak piece of our corner cabinet and broke it. His solution was to “sister” a piece below it. I was told it wouldn’t affect the countertops as this had no load bearing properties and it won’t be visible once countertops are installed. I believe that he is correct, and accidents happen, but it was disappointing as mishaps was something I wanted to avoid and large reason why we elected to hire someone rather than do the installation ourselves. No adjustment was made to the agreed upon price to account for the broken cabinet which I felt would have been the appropriate thing to do even it was a minor reduction. Overall, I would hire Erik again and be better prepared to be patient and clearly a communicate my expectations. He is precise, detailed, and very knowledgeable on IKEA systems. His involvement resulted in a nice overall outcome."

There are a few reasons custom closets are expensive: materials used, the luxury factor, and time to build. The people who can afford custom closets are those who can afford increased rates, and construction workers and contractors know this and charge accordingly. The time to build custom closets is substantial, especially if expensive material is being used or intricate details (like carved wood) are added to the project.
Different types of closets are defined mostly by size. A few different types of closets include:
A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.
A walk-in closet can be anything from a small 5-by-5 feet closet that has a narrow walkway with shelves on both sides to a 100 square foot bedroom-sized closet with shelving along the walls and plenty of room to move around in.
A built-in wardrobe often does not have a door and leaves the clothes and other contents open to the room, whereas a closet usually has a door to separate it from the rest of the room.
You should primarily pack books upright in boxes. But if you are trying to squeeze books into every last space of the box, you can pack sturdy paperback books with their spines down in the box. You can pack large books flat, as they take up more space anyway.
Whether it’s less expensive to build or buy a closet depends on both the type of closet and whether or not you’d be constructing it yourself. The cost of custom closets built by a pro ranges from $1,300 to $3,800, but you may be able to DIY it for as little as $400. By contrast, prefabricated options go as low as $200 and up to $3,000, so it’s almost always less expensive to go this route.
A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.
