"Getting the flooring installed properly has been a battle. Although our handyman had illness off and on, needed corrections in the vinyl tile installation were not completed. We are still awaiting replacement of baseboard pieces and a vinyl/carpet interface strip. The company KB has the housecleaning and handman components. I don't want to deride the housekeeping part as she seems very good and has positive feed back, but I would not want to haVe people believing, as unfortunately did, they are of the same caliber."

He showed up for measuring the next day, sent a quote within 48 hours and went over ordering of materials step-by-step. He also updated me frequently on shipment of materials and the timeline for work to be completed. (When Lowe's shipped the wrong fasteners and turnbuckles for the cable railing, Shannon caught the mistake right off by keeping close tabs on the inventory. ). Different types of tile cutters may work best depending on the type of tile you are cutting and the size of your project. There are two main types of tile cutters: manual and electric. Manual tile cutters are quick and easy to use for small projects and softer tile materials, but they can only make straight cuts. Electric tile cutters make light work of big projects and can cut through harder materials.

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.

Technically, you can start tiling in a corner and work your way out. However, it's not traditionally how tiling is done. Instead, work from the bottom middle of the wall. Tile out the entire row with whole tiles before moving on to the next row. Once you finish installing all of the whole tiles, then you focus on tiling the corners.
