"Honest guy who does good work and is readily willing to make things right if he is not satisfied with his work. He had issues with putting in a deadbolt on a very tough steel door. He ended up offering to add a kick plate to fix the issue without charging me. Then I had him fix up two other deadbolts that where not installed very well by another locksmith. Now these locks work superbly. I would trust this contractor to do things right."

The strike plate, hinges, and handle are the parts of a door most prone to damage. These parts see the most frequent use, causing them to wear and twear faster than other parts of a door. If you’re experiencing door issues, check these three parts first to see if they need repairing or replacing. 

Look at the door from the outside, or the key side. If the hinges are on the left side of the door, it’s a left-hand swing. If the hinges are on the right side of the door, it’s a right-hand swing. You can also think of it as which hand you would most likely use to open the door from the outside when considering whether it’s a right-hand vs. left-hand door.

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame.
