Scented mouse deterrents, like peppermint oil, can be effective in the short term. The pungent smells may temporarily repel mice, but they lose effectiveness as the scent fades or mice get used to it. The main drawbacks are frequent reapplication and the fact that these deterrents don't address the root cause of the infestation, such as entry points or food sources. While they can be part of a broader strategy, scented deterrents alone are rarely enough to eliminate a mouse problem.
If your house is full of things that attract spiders, you’re more likely to have a population explosion. When you have lots of cracks leading to warm, secure spots in your home, why wouldn’t they want to come in? Especially if your home has plenty of other meal-ticket insects, like flies, roaches, and fleas. Termites typically leave behind a trail on the surface and interior of your drywall as they chew through it. Look for small, pin-sized holes in drywall or wallpaper to determine whether termites have made their way inside.
