You should not spray pesticides of any kind into your air vents. The spray won’t reach far into the vent, minimizing its effectiveness in killing roaches, but more importantly, it’s dangerous for people and pets to inhale these chemicals. Roach spray is not a natural roach repellent, and it’s not safe to spray into air vents.

Fortunately, many strong natural scents can help deter roaches, thanks to their keen sense of smell. Roaches tend to avoid potent aromas, such as crushed bay leaves, citrus peels, eucalyptus, and peppermint, as they associate these smells with danger. Sprinkling garlic powder, placing mint or lavender plants, or using essential oils like citronella, clove, or tea tree can create an unwelcoming environment for them. These scents don't kill roaches, but they can help keep them from settling in your home when used consistently in high-risk areas like kitchens, bathrooms, or entry points.

Stink bugs hate strong, fragrant scents like clove, lemongrass, spearmint, and Ylang Ylang, so you can use essential oils as a natural deterrent. (Always keep them out of reach of your pets!) In the garden, plants like lavender, garlic, and catnip can ward off stink bugs thanks to their pungent aroma. Also, avoid decorating with white, as stink bugs are oddly attracted to it.

Because bats are nocturnal, there’s a chance that bats have already infested your home before you start to see warning signs, so don’t delay if you notice anything. If you see a bat or two at sunrise or sunset near your property, that’s another telltale sign that they could be setting up shop inside your space.

If your house is full of things that attract spiders, you’re more likely to have a population explosion. When you have lots of cracks leading to warm, secure spots in your home, why wouldn’t they want to come in? Especially if your home has plenty of other meal-ticket insects, like flies, roaches, and fleas. Sealing up obvious cracks and gaps and keeping your house bug-free makes it a less appealing place for spiders.
