"Allied Fence and Deck was quick to respond to my post. All my questions and concerns were addressed prior to arriving at my home. Allied’s representative was courteous and respectful. He arrived promptly and gave me a reasonable estimate to remove 2 downed pine trees and several dead boxwoods. The pricing was more than fair. Work was performed efficiently, and professionally. I am pleased with the results and will continue to use them in the future."

"This job was to help us save 4 trees, not tree removal.Only negative was that they would give us a time when they would be back the next day but then were always late. They did not call or if they did call it was significantly later after the time they said they would be here. On a positive note, they were very knowledgeable and expert, did the treatments quickly and thoroughly and spent the time giving me detailed instruction of what I needed to do and not do. They are good honest and hardworking people. This was the first time I used Angi's list/Home Advisor to hire someone and I was impressed"

"I had made appointment's with 2 other tree service contractors in my area to meet me at my house, but they both never showed up or called me back after we set up scheduled appointments. On a Saturday afternoon, while I was out running errands, Cameron (who I did not contact) took the initiative to stop at my house because he saw my work request on Home Advisor. He assessed the tree work that needed to be done, and left me a note, and his business card. I was so happy that he took the initiative to do this, so I called him to discuss the work, we negotiated a price, and made an appointment. On the day and hour of our appointment, he actually called me to let me know he was running late from another job that he had just completed. This guy impressed me more than any other contractor I have done business with over the years. He was courteous, respectful, knowledgeable and honest. I was very pleased with his work ethic and professionalism. Cameron and his helper finished the work promptly and left my yard clean and organized. I can't say enough good things about this guy. I had never met him before, or interacted in any way with him before I hired him for my tree work. I highly recommend him for anyone that needs tree service or yard work done. Call him today. - an extremely pleased customer."

"We have used Josue and his team two times. The first was to remove a large maple tree that had died and then a second time to remove a small tree and to trim tree branches away from our house prior to having a new roof installed. Along with being very skilled and professional, you will quickly learn that he and his team are very kind and friendly and work with high integrity. Once hired, you know they will always be your go-to tree services team. I highly recommend their services."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Palm tree stumps can take as long as seven to ten years to rot naturally. Whereas some tree stumps rot within a year, palm trees tend to last longer due to their deep root networks. Chemical rotting (described above) can help speed the process up so your palm tree stumps rot in under two months.

Some trees, such as silver maples, birches, sycamores, and scotch pines, shed their bark naturally. If your tree is not one that does this, it might have fallen prey to pests, fungi, or diseases. It could also simply be suffering from an extreme weather change, such as a snowstorm or heat wave. If you’re still stumped, consulting with a pro can help you diagnose your tree’s specific problem.

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large.

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

If this sounds like a good option, learn more about how to burn a tree stump before attempting it, as it does come with risks.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots.

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions.
