"Top marks all the way around for Oscar. Oscar is the best handyman we’ve ever employed. He was everything you want in someone working on your home: excellent communication, reasonable cost, high quality work, prompt, dependable, friendly, neat, cleans up after each day of work, very detail-oriented, and just a really nice guy. He re-screened our 3-season porch, replaced all the exterior wood facings on the porch, hung a new and much improved door on same porch, replaced about 12 feet of cedar privacy fence, and power washed the full exterior of our house. There is no question that we will call Oscar again when we need work done. If you’re looking for a talented handyman, look no further; just call Oscar."

"Reframed interior of our old farm-house in Portage, framed cavities for plumbing & HVAC access, reinforced subfloor and added support to timber foundation, added headers & hung solid wood doors. Very satisfied with the workmanship and expediency of this job. Started as a small project, but as it became evident we needed more done, he gave us a schedule and made time to complete everything we needed of him. Would advise those considering hiring DHI to have a full scope of the project laid out ahead of time so they can aquire materials and allot hours. We went far above our initial scope, and although we are blown away by the quality of the work, it certainly made scheduling much more strenuous on them."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

A board on board fence is a type of privacy fence that uses overlapping vertical boards to keep onlookers from seeing into the fenced yard. Typically made of wood, board on board fences are more expensive than other privacy fences because they use more materials and require more complex construction.

You can reuse chain link fences as long as they’re in good condition. The best part—reusing it helps you make the most of the cost of a chain link fence. Whether you want to reuse it or consider asking someone to remove it for you in exchange for a free fence, it’s possible. If you can’t find a location for it in your yard, you can repurpose a chain link fence by donating it to a local animal shelter or community garden.

Ideally, when you replace a fence post, you should also replace the concrete footing. The concrete bonds to your new post, creating a secure base. If you install a new post into old concrete, it won’t be as sturdy.

That said, it is possible. Sometimes the post will lift right out of the concrete. If not, you can use a high-lift car jack to try and lift the pole out of the footing. Put the new post into the same hole and backfill it with fast-setting concrete. Keep in mind, this won’t work well for metal posts.

Armadillos are attracted to water, so a leaky irrigation system or an overwatered lawn can encourage them to move in. They especially like wet areas where they can burrow and loose soil where they can dig for grubs. They are also attracted to dense ground cover, where they can often find food sources.

The average cost to install a fence is between $1,800 and $4,500. However, the price can vary significantly based on several factors. For a small DIY project, costs could be as low as $450, while fencing a large property like a 5-acre yard can exceed $43,000. Key factors that influence the total cost include the fence's size and height, the material used, the complexity of the design, site preparation needs, and any additional features like gates. The cost of raw materials, manufacturing, and custom fabrication can also impact the final price.
