"Locked out of my house. Called a dispatch service who put me through to them, told them I was locked out and they would be here in 30 minutes. Asked for a price (There website says upfront with no hidden fees) and they did not give me one and just said it would depend on the lock. Arrived and looked at my locks saying my front door was cheaper to open, again no price given, and when he was done in less than 5 minutes he says my bill is 308$. Normal expected amounts range from 50$ to 250$, they claimed they charged that much cause it was on a weekend (It was a friday evening) and they would not refund my money and would "Give a discount next time"."

Homeowners can save money by replacing locks themselves. A typical rekeying kit costs about $10 to $25. The only additional cost is purchasing new house keys, and those are no more than a few dollars per key. If you want to replace the locks on your own completely, the main cost is the price of the locks themselves.   • You want to upgrade your existing locks.

  • You have a lock you don’t want to replace.

  • You recently bought a home and want to change the locks.

  • You lost your key.

In some cases this is possible, but it’s not advisable as the screwdriver is likely to leave marks all over the wall and a noticeable dent on the door. Move slowly and carefully if you have to use this method, and consider calling an emergency locksmith right away instead of trying to break in.
