"Madison Stain and Seal worked with us to make sure we got what we wanted. They cleaned and stained our deck and updated our deck by replacing the railing and changing the color. They started the project within 2 weeks of meeting with us and completed it in 4 days all at a very reasonable price."

"I had a fantastic experience working with Joel with Lugatich Properties LLC on a deck installation for a property I was preparing to sell. From start to finish, he was efficient, professional, and incredibly responsive. They handled all the permitting, which took a major burden off my shoulders, and they moved quickly to get the project completed within a tight timeline. The quality of the workmanship is excellent — solid construction, clean lines, and exactly what we needed to boost the appeal of the home before the sale. It’s rare to find a company that delivers on both speed and quality, but Lugatich Properties LLC absolutely did. I highly recommend them to anyone needing reliable, high-quality deck work — especially if you’re on a deadline!"

"Did a very good job pressure washing the deck and gutters. Also sanded the deck before painting. Did not provide written estimate before their work and added the gutter cleaning which I did not request. Glad they did it, but did not have chance to compare pricing. Overall I was satisfied with their work."

"The job was a bit expensive, but it's not a small house, though a neighbor is getting their house done by someone else for $1000 less. The house and trim look good, until you get really close. House color on trim edges that should be a different color. All over spray wasn't cleaned up well, no masking was done. Lots of paint on the driveway, in the grass and on the upper deck. Areas in the yard where brushes and equipment were cleaned, or where paint was spilled are now dead, I will have to reseed those areas when it gets cooler. For the most part we are satisfied, but attention to detail was lacking."

"Jarrett was wonderful to work with. He kept to his word and on what he was going to do and kept to the price. He gave us ideas and design suggestions on the decks (2) decks. The contractor we had hired when starting the project left with no warning in the middle if it and Jarrett graciously fixed the other contractors poor workmanship to bring it to code and basically had to rebuild decks from the beginning. He did a large basement remodel for my son which turned out beautiful. My son was trying to get some furniture in thru the basement window which had to be removed and replaced. We couldnâ  t get the window out. It was a weekend and he cam eout ion his time right away. We called him for advice initially but he just came out. We have projects we definitely will. be using him for. He also painted some dormers on our very tall house and did an excellent job. Our local painter with 5 stars refused to do it-so wonâ  t ever call that guy again. You will not be disappointed hiring him."

"Mark and Creative did an EXCELLENT job! We had a dark burgundy dining room and were wanting to switch to a light gray / beige color as were concerned as to how much it would cost due to needing many coats to cover the old color. Mark reassured us that he could do this in two coats and that he was confident that it would not need a third. He was right! Mark uses only the best paints available for the specific jog. This is the 3rd or 4th time we have used Mark, so although we were skeptical, we trusted Mark. He was right! Tow coats, one day on site, and our dining room was perfect! I will only use, and recommend Creative Painting from now on. He is the best! Mark is very professional and understands concerns with empathy. He is able to stand by his words and his work! I recommend Creative Painting to anyone looking for any painting needs."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Pressure-treated lumber is one of the most affordable types of decking upfront. This material is widely available, so you can usually find pressure-treated lumber at almost any local home improvement store you visit. Keep in mind that wood requires a lot of upkeep with repainting and restaining, so any kind of wood may be more expensive in the long run than something like PVC decking.

To maximize the utility of space under a deck, it’s important to keep this area dry and clean. One way to prevent the area from becoming too wet is to install an under-deck draining system. This affordable home upgrade channels water away from the deck and provides usable space for storage or a functional area below a second-story deck. Not only will this be a useful maintenance upgrade, it can boost your home’s property value.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.
