"We are very impressed and pleased with working with Drew and his crew from our first meeting to the last walk around with Drew. They listened to what we pictured in our minds then guided us through the process of selecting colors. Drew and his crew started by pressure washing our home. Then they came and rapidly and professionally prepped our home for painting. Next the came and painted our home with the three colors we picked for different areas of the exterior of our home. They are great young men who worked not stop, always cleaned up at the end of the day. The entire process took four days. We have Cedar siding, many wood framed windows and cement block lower all being painted with three different stain and paint colors. They were courteous and positive and seemed to enjoy the work they did so well. We are completely satisfied with their professionalism and beautiful job they did on our home. John Bigham. Mankato Mn"

"Tim is a poet both with paper and wood. We enjoyed his professionalism and his attention to detail. His no radio policy and cleanliness around the work site were both appreciated. He was able to listen to what we wanted and translate that into a finished product with which we were very happy. He did not cut corners and made suggestions to improve the structure and quality of our home. The only sad point is that we have now moved and can no longer use the back deck Tim built us without risking trespassing citations. Thanks Tim!

"Five Stars!! Great guys to work with. Four Lakes completed house power washing and a deck cleaning and painting. Stan and Nick were very personal and discussed all aspects of the job with me prior to the work. Prices are great and the work ethic is top notch. Highly recommended. I definitely plan to hire them again."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A deck that isn’t attached to a house is called a floating or freestanding deck. These standalone decks are built near ground level, so they usually don’t need deck stairs. Some don’t even require permits. Generally speaking, building a floating deck is faster and more DIY-friendly than constructing one that’s connected to your home.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

Covering your deck with a breathable tarp can protect it from snow, ice, and cold winter temperatures. This is a good winterizing solution if you don’t plan to use your deck at all during the colder months. However, it might be best to skip the tarp if you’ll still be walking on your deck or using it in a limited capacity.

Pavers are a great decking option for pools. They’re customizable, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, textures, materials, and price points, and they’re slip-resistant. Concrete pool decks, on the other hand, are harder to repair and replace if damaged and aren’t as slip-resistant as most paver materials. However, not all pavers are equal in terms of durability, maintenance, and performance. Pavers also have their own cons that may encourage homeowners to opt for stamped concrete instead, such as higher upfront costs.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.
