"It's a pretty decent system, I think. They send you the pieces and you install them yourself, which is pretty easy. The only real problem I have is that one sensor is too far away from the panel...or there's some interference, and they haven't been able to fix that. It's an interior door, so it's not the end of the world, just a little annoying. Their customer service is pretty good though. Nice, smart customer service people on the other end, very polite and helpful."

"Very Professional, knowledgeable & instructive. Provided expert advise as proceeded with the inspection and cleanout. Fixed several items neglected or forgotten by original installer of chimney. Went out of his way to even clear out the roof vents that were covered in snow on a cold afternoon, much appreciated. Very friendly and personable. Will definitely use them again."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

Take a look at your roof shingles from the ground or from a ladder, and look for cracked or missing shingles, which are the most obvious signs of roof damage. You should also look for pockmarks from hail and blown debris, as well as blisters that could indicate a moisture issue or a problem with the installation. Inside your home, be on the lookout for water spots on the ceilings on your upper floor, as this is a clear sign of a roof leak.

You should not clean roof shingles if the roof has damage like missing shingles or low spots where water may accumulate. You should focus on repairing the roof before any cleaning process occurs. If you notice roof damage as you’re climbing on the roof to clean it, stop immediately. Call a roofing pro to make repairs. Cleaning a roof that has damage could lead to pooling water or water damage to the roof decking. The roof cleaning process removes mold and mildew, making the roof look better. It is not going to fix physical damage, though.

In most cases, yes, you will need to be home while your roof inspector checks your roof. The inspector will be able to complete the exterior assessment without input from you, but they will also need access to your attic space to look for signs of leaking, like pest infestation, water stains, mold growth, and visible holes leading to the exterior. They will also check the roof trusses, rafters, and supports to confirm their structural integrity. Roof inspections usually take between two and three hours, so plan accordingly.

There is a weight limit for walking on a roof, but it’s determined by your roof structure and not the roofing material, at least in the case of a metal roof. Consider that entire teams of roofers will be on top of your home during the installation, so the weight of a single person won’t compromise your roof. That isn’t the case for something like a tile roof, so a high weight limit is one benefit of a metal roof.

A chimney cap typically lasts between three and 25 years. This wide range is due to several variables, including the material it's made from, the local climate, and how frequently you use your fireplace. Living in an area with severe weather can shorten its lifespan. Regular inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs as needed can help your chimney cap last as long as possible.
