"We used Milwaukee Windows for a single small window replacement in our kitchen. Great experience, through and through. Ihsan was extremely personable, helpful, and conscientious. He listened to what we were looking for and guided us through the entire process, start to finish. He got the order submitted quickly, was able to rush delivery, and personally ensured that installation went perfectly. I have no hesitations in recommending this company."

"We had this done several years ago. Compared to other window installers I had experienced in other houses, there was hardly any mess inside the house. They have kept our heating and cooling costs down. I did not feel pressure to purchase more than I needed at the time. I just finished washing them this spring and they are easy to clean even for a 75 year old. I also was glad to support Wisconsin products and workers."

Small jobs welcome

"Project was done promptly. We are so happy with this company. We had a front window installed a few years ago. This is the only company that give us great advise on what was necessary to get the job done with the least expense. We then decided to have them install a patio door in our home. We are so pleased with the door. Very neat work and a really pleasant person. Will be using them for my next project which is windows on our home. A plus rating !!!"

"There are many good things that need to be said about Empire Home Remodeling. To begin the process, I selected three local window vendors. All three came to our house to explain their product line. We do not buy solely on price alone. Empire had the most professional presentation of the three we considered and we felt no high pressure from the sale rep. Price wise they offered the best product of the vendors at what we felt was a fair price . We were able to purchase triple pane glass for the same price the others were offering for double pane glass, plus some additional benefits. Windows came with a transferable lifetime warranty. This can be a benefit when selling ones property. We felt confident that the measurements were accurate as they double checked before the window order was placed. There were willing to work to our schedule as we had some major issues confronting us when it came time for the install. When it came time for installation the installer on our project was very concerned that all things were done right. He was very neat and left our premises in great shape.. We feel we made the right decision because if we had a question of any type, Empires owner, Melissa, dealt with it herself. We did not have to deal with a list of people in order to get an answer. We felt this to be very reassuring. We also came to realize the owner visits each job site to ensure that quality work is being performed. Richard Overall, Empire Home Remodeling is a company I would strongly recommend."

"Great estimate-misunderstand on part of job-came through in the clutch We thought the pricing was great considering we believed we were looking at high quality products. Dan was the estimator and was very helpful in making suggestions about pricing and options. Product had to be ordered and we were told it would be 6-8 weeks which actually only took 3-4. Doors installation timing was estimated at 2 days only took 1. Very immaculate clean up. Window was installed 2 days later and took only one day. We were thrilled with the quality. However, the bay service staining and varnishing were not included in the price of the job. We were not told this during the quote process and I was upset because we should have been given the opportunity to ask other quote providers if they included staining and varnishing as part of the project bid process. They felt I should have known I was responsible for staining and varnishing. I was expecting a factory finish for he bay services and trim. Things got a bit rocky in the discussion and I was very clear that no one told me that it was not a turnkey application Story has a HAPPY ending. HomeSealed hired a stain/varnish contractor at their expense in order to meet my expectations. We will be replacing a patio sliding glass door next spring and every expectation of using them again for this process."

"We have not started our project yet, we have just contracted them to replace 2 large picture windows on our house. Alec came to our home to give us a quote and was extremely thorough in explaining the product options they have available. We were very impressed with his extensive knowledge. He spent much more time with us than the other company we received a quote from. Alec saved us some money by recommending only partial reframing. I had assumed because of rotted wood on the sills that the entire window frame would have to be replaced, but he determined that was not necessary in our case. He was very personable and the company seems trustworthy. We are excited to work with Empire on our home improvement project!"

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

You don’t want to put anything on top of your mirror when you move it. You also want to limit the possibility that something heavy will fall on the glass and shatter it. For this reason, it’s not a good idea to lay a mirror flat in the moving truck.

Yes, it is possible to repair a damaged or cracked mirror, but whether you should do it yourself depends on the extent of the damage. For minor issues like small chips, cracks, and scratches, you can use a DIY approach. Resin-based repair kits can fix minor cracks, while scratches can often be removed with metal polish, nail polish, baking soda, or a glass polisher. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the best results.

However, for more significant damage, DIY repair is not recommended. Repairing and resilvering mirrors is a delicate process that can involve caustic chemicals and requires a high level of precision. The materials for a DIY attempt can cost over $100, which may not be a significant saving compared to hiring a professional. Since a failed attempt could result in more damage and higher repair costs, it is often better to hire a mirror repair expert from the start, especially for large, valuable, or extensively damaged mirrors.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

Cutting glass yourself can be dangerous, as the edges are sharp and can easily cause lacerations if you’re not careful. Working with larger pieces of glass is especially dangerous, as they can be cumbersome and difficult to handle without shattering. If you’re uncomfortable doing the work yourself, you can hire a professional to get the job done safely.

There is no blanket number when it comes to glass thickness for soundproofing. Thicker glass does help reduce noise, but it’s only part of the solution. Most single-pane windows use glass that’s ⅛” to ¼” thick. While increasing the thickness can cut down on sound, the real noise-blocking power comes from stacking layers. Double—and triple-pane windows are far more effective for soundproofing. The combination of mass and separation breaks up sound waves better than thick glass could on its own.
