Outside of regular maintenance, most gutter repairs are best left to the pros. Most gutter projects require basic ladder safety and (sometimes) getting on top of your roof. One of the biggest causes of gutter leaks is clogged gutters. If your gutters are full of debris and leaves, water will back up and eventually overflow outside of the gutter. Other common causes of gutter leaks include loosened gutter fasteners, faulty gutter slopes (sagging gutters), separated joints, and cracks or holes.

Many homeowners believe seamless gutters are worth the cost. Seamless gutters last longer, don’t require as much maintenance, and are less prone to clogs and leaks. Also, many people find that seamless gutters are much more pleasing aesthetically. So although seamless gutters cost more than seamed gutters, many people consider them a good investment.

Regular gutters usually have seams every 10 feet, and each seam can potentially leak. You’ll have to replace the gutter sealant every 1 to 5 years, which requires a lot of maintenance or gutter repair to keep them in good shape.

While minimal drippage may not be problematic, gutters that are constantly leaking or overflowing indicate damage or improper installation. A rain chain gutter or other ornamental feature may produce more dripping than usual. Likewise, rain dispersal systems may also cause water to sprinkle to the ground. However, if you notice pools of water or flooding around your property, then it’s a good idea to have your gutter system inspected.
