"Customer service was top notch- we started with a 4 acre wooded lot and we had started clearing it ourselves and had many stumps and some more trees to take down. They gave an estimate via photos and email since job site was over an hour away which worked great. Worked til job was finished and did so in a timely manner. We also added clearing a new driveway after the fact and did amazing job. Great communication - would definitely hire again and give referral. Photos are Before and afters. "

There are sections of my driveway where nearly all of the seal coating came off in less than 9 months, so I am going to have to re-do the job myself. This is not what I had in mind when I paid over $1,100 (a fair price, if it would have lasted longer). I understand that the work isn't covered anymore, as I didn't report it until the thaw revealed so much was missing, and I'm not upset with Merit or their staff. There are many ways to cut through roots when digging, especially if your trencher doesn’t seem to be removing the roots. First, use a shovel to expose the roots. Silt fences should be trenched 8 to 12 inches deep to prevent sediment-filled water from escaping underneath. It also helps to anchor the fence during wet, windy weather. The silt fence fabric often has a red line to indicate the depth for digging. A good contractor will be familiar with the guidelines and regulations.

Trenching is not the same as boring. Boring uses a drill to make a tunnel for underground utilities, but trenching involves digging with an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. Boring is more precise and expensive, and it’s best for installing utilities underneath buildings, roads, and bodies of water. Trenching is simpler but can cause more disruption to landscaping and ecosystems.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.
