"The cleaners did an excellent job in cleaning the carpet and attempting to remove all darkened areas in the carpeting. There were a few areas that they were unable to remove completely, but it appeared that those areas wouldn't come clean anyway. They did forget to clean the storage area at the entrance of the apartment, but this was not an issue as that room is being re carpeted."

The mixture will foam as the acidic vinegar reacts with the basic baking soda, which helps loosen and lift the stain. An alternative method suggests using the ingredients separately. Start by sprinkling baking soda on the stain and letting it sit for 15 to 30 minutes before vacuuming it up. Next, blot the remaining stain with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, and then blot the area dry with a clean cloth.

You should always use hot water to clean your carpets. The heat will help lift dirt and stains as you work over them with your carpet cleaner. Before you fill your tank, allow your faucet to run until you’re sure the water is hot and ready to go.

Soot can be harder to remove compared to other types of stains given its acidic nature. It can also cause underlying paint to peel off during the cleaning process. If your soot issue is a result of smoke damage, it’s recommended you call a pro to help remove it versus doing it yourself.

Wool rugs respond well to light steam cleaning. Steam cleaning can help lift the dirt out of a wool rug and eliminate odors. However, because wool rugs are so absorbent, excessive moisture can lead to mold and mildew growth, so you’ll need to be cautious with the amount of steam being used, and avoid steam cleaning more than once a year to protect the rug’s fibers.

Stains can be removed from couches by spot-cleaning them with the appropriate solution. Check your upholstery tag below the cushions or under your couch for the right spot-cleaning solution. In some cases, you may also be able to remove the upholstery covers and throw them in the wash on a gentle cycle.
