"Bob Wambach and the team at Greenscapes overall did a great job. The team was extremely professional in implementing the plan that we had come up with. They used 3D software to help us visualize what it would look like and we got a color print out of the plan. The design process was relatively seamless. We were really impressed with how professional the crew was. They were on time, and minimized disruption despite hauling in tons of boulders, gravel and needing to use a bobcat to move things around. We were able to continue uninterrupted with our busy lives. Everything was done very professionally and the re-grading and patio looked great when they were done. Clean up was done every day, and they even threw in bonus concrete bumpers as part of the gravel parking area that we had discussed, but was not in the scope of our project. There was some miscommunication towards the end, as I did not initially get a formal walkthrough after completion. But they worked to remedy that. As our project was done late in the season, we would have to wait until the spring to see the softscaping grow into the space and do some patching from the heavy equipment coming through. In the spring/summer, they came twice to reseed the planted grass lawn, but it still continues to struggle, and that would be my only complaint with their work. However to their credit, our lawn space has very challenging conditions with very dense shade. They also replanted some plants that did not seem to make it through the winter and did not grow. So, they went above and beyond, and all in all am very satisfied with the pretty substantial project to our property. We still have more to do and would use them for future work, and we are happy with our results so far."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

If you have a manageably-sized lawn and the ground is relatively even and free of debris, a reel mower can be very effective. That’s because reel mowers provide a cleaner, more precise cut compared to power rotary mowers. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to stay on top of your lawn maintenance: Reel mowers can’t handle grass that’s grown too tall or dense.

Start your search for a good lawn care company by finding some landscapers in your area; it might be a good idea to research companies that already work on your block, as they’re more likely to be able to fit you into their schedules, given your proximity. Next, conduct a search online to see if they have positive customer reviews, and try to avoid companies that have poor scores or a history of complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Finally, make sure to ask each company about pricing, contracts, scheduling, and any add-on services.

While there’s no exact science to how often you should rake your leaves, a good rule of thumb to follow is to rake leaves every three to four days. However, you can rake more often or less often, depending on how quickly leaves are accumulating on your lawn.

The American ideal of a large, perfectly-manicured lawn is tied to the post-World War II suburban housing boom. In the decades that followed, technological advances made self-propelled mowers more affordable and plentiful. Many Americans came to see reel mowers as old-fashioned, inconvenient, and time-consuming, and they eventually fell out of fashion.

Clover is a sustainable, low-maintenance alternative to turfgrass, allowing homeowners to put away the mower while enjoying a lush and consistent lawn. The plant also attracts pollinators, adds nitrogen to low-nutrient soil, and holds up in a range of climates. Consult a local lawn care professional to determine whether replacing your grass with clover is right for your yard.
