We bought our first home this year, from a private homeowner, but the home was built by Preferred Homes. We love our 2yr old home so much when our mother needed to move to our city after losing her husband, we searched for a Preferred Home and got her into a brand new home, in a good quiet section of town for a great affordable price! Before her final move-in date, the company did a "New Home Orientation" to acquaint her with all of the mechanicals/workings of the home and who to call if something wasn't working properly as she has a warranty obviously. A couple of days before her move-in, it was noticed her toilet valve was leaking and we called Preferred up, spoke to the owner directly who ensured us he would have someone over within a day to fix it. He did, and the issue was fixed instantly. They also said if the water did any damage to the tile, they would replace that as well. I couldn't have asked for better service and workmanship for my mother. The only thing I would say could use some work is the tending to new yards. They didn't grade/seed my mother's yard in August, and it is still simply mud and weeds. I did tell her to call them to find out about the seeding, and when she did they said that at the time of year it was, it was too late to seed as it wouldn't have time to grow/establish. So not sure how we will get this issues resolved for next year, but my fiance will likely make some more calls to see if they can come out in the spring

They did work to the house next door so we were able to see the work that they had done. It's sort of a dry-run to see how we get along with them, and it's been working all okay so far. The quote was reasonable.

The only delay was with the cabinets which took longer due to custom finish. The finish on a few of the cabinets were not a match with the others. The company made good and replaced the cabinets. However this problem delayed the remodel project with Mr Cleaton doing all that he could until the replacment cabinets arrived

Few problems -- 3 very minor issues to be specific -- after the first year in the house. They cam out and corrected 2 immediately and assured us the third was not a problem, but rather a cosmetic issue.

Everything about our home buying process has been a night mare. First off, when we put in our full price offer, the builder, Jake Petry, took his sweet time responding to our offer. It took him five days to return our offer. When we offered, he signed the contract KNOWING that we had a VA loan and that he was required to do everything he needed to do to complete our contract and close on the house. The VA loan needs a builder code, and Jake refused to sign the paper work to receive a builder code, which means his homes were not under VA codes. He basically said that “he was not going to sign the papers.” We had to spoon feed him the information to finally get him to sign the papers 5 days later. Our realtor, his agent, and even the broker were pushing him to sign these papers. He is required legally to fulfill what he has signed in our contract. He was also asked to sign more papers, because yes a VA loan is very picky. He refused to sign those papers and went missing. We had our realtor, two of his realtors, and the broker trying to reach out to him. He refused to sign the papers and didn’t return any calls, texts, or emails to anyone, including his agent. Which then continued to push back our closing. He also left the house a mess, there was blue tape covering the walls, the plumbing and sinks were not put in, the trim was not painted, the appliances were not put in—all of which he agreed on in our contract— it basically looked the same the whole time we were working on closing from Jan. 30- March 8th. Which meant that when we had our appraisal done our inspection couldn’t be approved because he had not completed the house. He was then told about all of the issues that needed to be fixed and took two weeks to finish them which pushed our appraisal back until the Friday before we were supposed to close on Monday. During the appraisal the inspector needed to see the appliances—well Jake got the appliances sent to the wrong house so when the appraiser showed up, he couldn’t complete his inspection, which then pushed us back from closing on Monday. We finally got the ok to close on Thursday, 20 mins before closing we get a call from our realtor stating that we needed to wait a little because we were waiting on paperwork from Jake, surprise surprise. Apparently this is a company owned by brothers and the one brother owned the deed to our house and needed to sign it over to Jake so that he could sign the deed over to us. Well they couldn’t get a hold of him. So I sat in a car for an hour with my two kids—6 and 10months, at the title company, after driving 30 mins to get there on time, for them to tell me that they never got a hold of him. We had already rented a uhaul and had it packed up to move the next morning. They finally got a hold of him that night and told us that we could close on Friday. Friday comes and we’re waiting in the car once again to close on our house and we get a call saying that they can’t get a hold of the seller, Jake, once again. At this point our realtor, his agent, his attorney, and broker are trying to get a hold of him. Come to find out the brothers are in a “tiff” and they can’t agree one who is getting the money to our house. So here we are again waiting to close because the brothers can’t get their **** together. We have now cancelled our apartment we’re currently living in and have to be out in ten days. We have a relocation package with my husbands work and we have now lost that because we cannot find a house and close before our time is up. We are basically homeless with two kids and a dog during the coronavirus where there are no open hotels. To say this has been the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER would be sugarcoating it. Jake is the worst seller on the planet and deserves to lose his company over the stress and turmoil he has caused our family. Supposedly he is new to selling his own homes and really needs to reconsider selling his own homes because of how unprofessional and selfish he is. NEVER EVER EVER BUY WITH JAKE AND PETRY HOME BUILDERS, BYARD, PCO HOMES OR WHATEVER THE HECK THEIR NEW NAME IS

"An outstanding company all the way around! Mindy in the office is a real professional. She arranged for the owner to visit our house and offer up an estimate for removing the 38 year old untreated deck wood from our 2nd floor deck and replacing it with treated wood. He allowed us an opportunity to stain the deck wood prior to installation. His crew, Marty and Marty arrived, within 2 months of our estimate, allowing us time to finish the wood. Pretty good considering this is the prime building season and our project was small by comparison to most. In less than a full day they completed the project. Marty is a detail oriented carpenter with 30 years experience and did a great job. His assistant cleaned the area and left everything in fine shape. They didn't even stomp down my wife's landscaping grasses located under the deck. Both were very professional and cordial. The deck looks solid and is very well constructed. Additionally, the company is very community oriented and have done work at cost for the benefit of fund raising organizations within the area and adjoining counties/communities.

"Expert House Movers brought a crew of 6-8 & came in late August 2013 to start the process of raising & moving the house. My husband had done all the prep work of disconnecting the utilities & removing the furnace, etc. They dug access ramps to the old foundation/basement with bobcats. They poked good sized holes around the foundation so they could put in steel beams and jack up the house. Our foundation was from 1917 & built from old creek gravel cement, so it was pretty tough. It took three & half days to jack the house & move it over the driveway. It seemed really fast to me. The only thing to fall in the house was a picture off the piano. We still had access to the house through a tall ladder to get clothes, etc. that we needed.
<br /> We took over the process of arranging excavation, concrete pouring, and carpenters with more local contractors. Expert does have concrete people & others they use in the St Louis area that know exactly the requirements needed for the new foundation.
<br /> After the basement was poured & cured (curing takes about 3-4 weeks), Expert returned in October 2013 to move & set the house. They had been in contact with the concrete man for specifications, but there were no slots for the beams when setting the house down. A concrete worker had to come & cut those slots. We had a carpenter on hand to finish the sill installment & make sure the sills for the permanent beams was correct & set the support posts in the basement. We also had a friend's tractor help Expert's bobcat pull the house back over the foundation. While all this was going on, Expert was jacking and moving supports & placing slider beams & raising & lowering the house. The process was complete in about 2 1/2 days with care & precision. Some of the cracks in our house even disappeared. Great job guys.
<br /> Our carpenters returned to build a staircase & some other requirements. We are working on re-connecting utilities & returning the furnace, water heater, etc. to the new basement. We plan to move back into the house in the first week or so in November 2013. It's been a long process, but well worth it. Made possible by Expert House Movers!
