"Top Bros completely gutted and remodeled the two outdated bathrooms in our condo. The building is over 100 years old, so there were some challenges with plumbing, framing, and leveling, but Top Bros didn't shy away from any of them. They tackled each challenge head on and transformed our bathrooms, ensuring that everything was done correctly. They were friendly, easy to work with and the final products turned out amazing. I would highly recommend working with them."

"Leo's High Quality Construction did an excellent job repairing our deck and brining it up to code. Jeimy communicated with us great throughout the process from the quote, to when the project would be completed, to when the utility company would be marking for underground wires, to when the building inspector would be coming to assess the finished product. They took care of everything including the building permit! The finished product was beyond our expectations! We would highly recommend Leo's High Quality Construction."

"Lynchpin did everything right, from the beginning. Quick response to my request for estimate, timely completion of the project at a fair price. They were friendly and professional in all respect. I would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"Andy Garcia, of Sirus Builds, has worked on a few projects for us over the years, including installation of a new deck, painting and priming interior spaces, fixing a gutter that was improperly installed, and installing interior trim and molding in our home. We live in an old house, circa 1917, with lathe and plaster walls and not a square corner to be found. We call Mr. Garcia "The Problem Solver." He is smart and creative in making available materials fit into impossible places. He's very professional, coming into a job ready to listen first and then checks in regularly once the work begins. In the case of the trim and molding job, he was able to recreate the look of the old molding when it was unavailable elsewhere."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.
